I've wanted a tattoo for a few years but always said I wouldn't even think about getting one done until I had my heart set on a particular design and I think I've found it, the picture below is slightly different to the one I would get as my DOB is different, I want it on my inner left wrist going down my forearm, about 2.5 inches in length

Mine would say XVIII V XCIV

oh, and the picture below looks a bit funny because it had only just been done - swollen etc

I personally like the idea of that but not where it is on his arm. I think something like that would look best smaller like you've said.

I am thinking of getting something like that but having my year as : MCMXCII which is 1992 instead of just XCII.

Don't see the point of inking your birth date to your body, but OK.

yeah similar to the one i want but i'd rather get it smaller, in a different font and without the colons :P

it looks a hell of a lot bigger than it actually is, it's no longer than 4 inches long lol - that picture is definitely deceiving.

JACKTARD

yeah but I would still want it half the size of that :p

Okay, but why? You know your own birthdate. :p Is it worth making it difficult to find jobs (and wear short sleeves at the jobs)?

from far away or if you squinted it would look like a bar code

It sounds like quite a nice idea :P. I'll probably consider getting one like that if I decided to have another one.

Mine might be a bit long though xD!

XIX : XII : MCMLXXXIX

mine was like that but for the year, instead of doing 1990 for example, use just 90

I could try it, but I always have my birthyear as 1989, I never shortened it for some reason :P.

Also only three letters would be removed. So it still would seem long xD! I suppose I could remove the commas, but I like how it looks. And I don't even know why I'm putting this much thought into it, I haven't even decided if I want another tattoo yet :P.

XIX : XII : LXXXIX

It's nice and if you do get the font and stuff changed then it can be unique. :)

Stupid, all tattoos are. You look like a plonk now and even more so when your older.

Just in case you forget. But you're screwed if you don't know Roman numerals.

I'm not keen on tattoos at all in my opinion because I feel that they just ruin your body, but if you like it and you're definitely sure you'll be able to live with it for the rest of your life then go ahead - it's a nice option.

I wouldn't regard tattoos generally as "stupid", however, most teenagers these days just get them without putting proper thought into them, for instance getting hollow stars, which I do think are stupid. They don't realise that it hinders chances of employment, etc, if they in full view, i.e. on arms. They also don't realise that as they get older they will fade unless they're touch up, and where skin folds and wrinkles, the pattern will screw up. I have a tattoo at the top of my back which I deliberately got a couple of years ago that's out of sight. It's the shark from Jaws, which I got after years of thought as it's my all-time favourite film and very dear to me.

I find tattoos exciting and i think if u want it then go for it :)

I don't really see the point of it, but if that's what you want.. go for it. Don't let others sway you on something you're doing to your own body.

Hollow stars have no reason. Jaws is what inspired me to pursue a dream career that I accomplished. You can't get more personal than that.

I like tattoos that are meaningful like that.

@Jacktard hmm its okay I guess

Hollow stars are pointless, yet you have a tattoo of a shark that inspired your career.

Now, what if you decide to change you career later in life? It will just be a tattoo of Jaws. Now myhollow stars actually means a lot more to me then your tattoo means to you. I have 3 hollow stars down the inside of my right forearm, with the largest by my elbow. These stars stand for my youngest brother (smallest star), me (medium sized star) and my older brother (the largest star). Plus, the first star is a good 4 inches from my wrist and I like to wear long sleeved shirts.

So which tattoo has more meaning?

Seeing some of the comments and me already having 4 major tattoos on my own body, I know its not everyone cup of tea but its our own choices to make. Im in a respected medical job were my tattoos dont effect it at all, most patients comment on them saying how nice they are if they do catch a glimpse of one.

Now more on topic, Jack I like the concept but make sure you know the tattooist your going to has plenty of experience and see his previous work beforehand, many people I know have had good ideas but come back with something that resembles the rear end.

And what if your brother turns into a serial killer and you want nothing more to do with him? That's well within the realm of possibility. Will I change career? No. Will your brother turn into a serial killer? It is unlikely.

As long as you like it, go for it! I think it's alright... wouldn't want or need my birthday in roman numerals tattooed on me though. :')

No matter what my does or will do, he will always be my brother, therefore I will always love him. If he became the most notorious serial killer who ever lived, I may change to dislike him but would always love him.

Why is it a bad thing to sway someone from doing something, by giving your opinion? It might be a valid opinion that gets someone to think, and stops something regretful from happening.
