Okay so I am getting an injection tomorrow after not having one for a very long time, the injection is against Polio, Tetanus & Diphtheria and I am just wondering, what is your take on injections, how do you feel about getting them and most importantly do they hurt a lot or not so much?

I've had that jab, it didn't hurt me that much and i'm terrified of needles! Hate them but I would rather have them than get really ill.

I don't really like getting them, I always dread getting them but when I do end up getting it i'm fine :o! I've not had very many injections only one or two whilst in secondary school.

I remember getting that one ageeees ago, I think I was talking to the nurse and didn't even notice she'd jabbed me with it, so yeah its not a bad one.
I don't really mind them, i just dont like the idea of them going into the vein at your elbow .

Thanks for the quick replies! :D So basically, the jab doesn't hurt as much if you don't wind yourself up about it? Anyone else had any expericens or any advice on injections?

Good good, I'm not a massive fan of them tbh, the thought of having a person stick anything into you is not a nice thought

I'm terrified of them, everytime I get one I feel very faint. The thought of needles and blood just makes me feel ill.

I really don't mind injections. I remeber in Year 9 (or 10) everyone was like "OMG BCG I AM SO SCARED" some people cried and others even fainted but I was just like YAWN. Didn't hurt at all. Had that Polio jab n'all, it was a walk in the park.

Meh, you barely feel them. There's no need to apprehensive about some little needle.

Seriously Mark, you're gonna kick yourself for posting this because it will be fine. I was SO worried for this injection because it was the first one I'd had since I was small, but seriously it's absolutely fine lol.

I remember being in the room and I was like ugh I hate injections.. will I be able to touch it after? Will I be able to shower?.. and the nurse was just like "It will feel something like this" and jabbed it in. Seriously I couldn't even feel it. It's fine lol. I really don't mind them so much now :)

It's weird really, when I was younger I used to have blood taken from me a couple of times a month however although wasnt scared.of needles at the time they actually terrify me now to the point where I kept missing my third hpv jab because the second one left me a dead arm for 2 weeks:

Anyway I get really nervous about them like ":O THEY IZ GUNNA HURT ZOMGGGGG" then have it and it's like...eh "/ hurts for like 0.01 seconds then it's all good and I'm like woooooo lollipop yay ;D

Have to have one every yr for flu as well so I'm used to them but still get scared >;[

youre year 10 then, yes?
anyway it doesnt hurt, i honestly didnt notice she done it and it was ultra quick aswell, however i suffered from some bleeding but it did clear quickly. I loled when someone fainted because of how pathetic the needles were and how pathetic any blood could have been.

I don't think they hurt that badly, it's a mind over matter thing. I used to be absolutely terrified of needles until they started becoming a regular occurrence for me. I've had well over one hundred injections over the last year (2010) either intravenously or just normally and I can't really feel the initial nip any more.

I've had the injection you're going for (I think) and I've had the flu jab. My guess is that they'll be very similar, a sharp scratch followed by some muscle cramp. This is natural.

I'm surprised you didn't catch a disease!

ot: I really don't mind them they are actually not that bad I just think about other things whilst it's being done.

i had this one about 2/3 years ago :P didn't hurt too bad.
i personally despise injections but i know they're necessary. it depends on what one it is for me as to whether it hurts or not. like the gardisil one, man that hurt like a ***** but the tdap one (the one you're getting) didn't hurt me at all. i've also had two chicken pox ones and they didn't really hurt. unfortunately i had to have three on one day (all three of the above mentioned lol) and the gardisil was killing me so bad omg. at the time i didn't know that it was the gardisil, but when i went back for my second and third ones i was like OMG SCREAMS :'(

Well, you're getting a needle jabbed into your arm. I'm not sure why people get so afraid of them, no one's ever told me a real reason why they've gotten scared of them when I ask they're just like: Idk why I'm scared of em I just am.

I'm not bothered by them. Freaking out only makes things worse.

lol i couldn't shower/get changed n had to stay off school the day after my first one...... paiiinful
i refuse to get my third one because i took an allergic reaction to the second (she put the needle in the wrong place... :/) :(

ehhh the polio one isn't too bad can't have been if i don't remember o.o my friend did throw up after it though lol i don't like needles not cause i'm scared i just don't think they're all that effective or useful.

They are much better than they used to be. I find the trick is to relax the arm as much as possible and breathe slowly.

I have them when I need to and no other time really. I can't give blood or anything like that because I wouldn't be able to stomach it.

Well, I had the injection, It wasn't too bad and it didn't hurt much. I felt a little sick after seeing the needle and people said I looked like a ghost but I guess it was okay.

Although the thread topic has helped me a lot and the injection has past I guess people can carry on discussing what they hate/like about injections and past experiences!

Not that bad, it's when they take the needle out you feel a little pinch. Just don't let people hit your arm and think of something while it is getting done, I made the wrong move when i actually looked at what she was doing, i felt sick after it :(
