According to Sulake, "Habbo virtual goods sales hit all-time high in December" and "Habbo Hotel's Record Year 2010 in numbers (http://sulake.com/blog/entries/2011-01-04_Habbo_Hotels_Record_Year_2010_in_numbers.html)" could have something to do with it :P.

I am very pleased to announce that last December was the best month of Habbo Hotel (http://www.habbo.com/) ever in user metrics but also in terms of revenue: Habbo's December user revenue was 4.5M€ ($6M) from virtual goods only.

Full year 2010 was also the best ever both in user metrics and in revenue: Habbo user revenue in 2010 grew by around 25% vs 2009.

For a snapshot of pretty impressive 2010 Habbo annual metrics please see our CTO's earlier blogpost.
As the Habbo Hotel product is in great shape and we have pretty exciting new things and improvements coming out this year, we expect to grow our revenue in 2011 at the same pace and to further improve the company's profitability.

Habbo Hotel is all about users and their creativity. So, a humble Thank You to all our loyal Habbo users from all over the world - you guys make Habbo the great place it is!
Interesting :P.

At first I thought this was just sales from the catalog but they could mean credit sales?

I don't think they mean sales from the catalog i think they mean like buying 80 credits for £10.

EDIT: but a lot of people buy credits from other people for cheeper.

Im not accusing anyone but i know for a fact that most of the rich casino owners do this 'black market' trading.

They must be laughing - earning that much from selling virtual stuff.

I wonder what their gross and net profit is.

I laughed a lot at this :P. Please take a leaf out of jagex's pages sulake. LISTEN TO YOUR COMMUNITIES FEEDBACK AND ACTUALY ACT ON IT!!!!!!!

Habbo is all about users and their creativity? No. Habbo as of recent is all about getting more cash off kids. Exchange taxes, hotel merges, rises in credit prices, the list goes on...

Not that i can blame them, most companies are all for the money. However it annoys me to see lies in articles like this.

I don't understand. Most people who've been around to know what it was like would agree that the middle to late few years of the last decade was the best for players in Habbo. Yet the figures seem to say different things which I find fascinating. In another article I read, over 1.4billion virtual items were traded from user to user in 2010. If they can track that, I wonder if they can track individual trades?

I believe they can.
Back in I think 2008/2009, there were people scripting and they would basically enter your room where you were and suddenly you would be donating to them the items from your room, 1 by 1 and you couldnt cancel the trade or kick them. Luckily I left the room though :P. Anyway, they took 2 thrones from me but these then got replaced (by Redtiz) so I'm sure it was because they could see that what I told them was what actually happened in the trade.

Sometimes I wish I was in their position. Lol at the last sentence, they were probably deciding on how to spend the money.

They are talking about money so its not stuff from the catalogue its how many credits they've sold and I'm not surprised they are making more money after they put the prices up, sorry but from where I'm sat it's a no brainer.

They put the prices up knowing addicts would just pay more to "get more" and everybody fell for it hook line and sinker. Excellent business Sulake, shame it's kids you're ripping off.

---------- Post added 13-01-2011 at 12:33 AM ----------

to add to that

s Habbo is free-to-play, most players do not spend money in the service. Those who do, use it primarily in order to create custom content, spaces and activities for their friends and other players. In exchange, they gather fame, respect

eurgh, it makes you sick

It's just horrible to pick on kids who probably haven't been very popular in real life and offer "fame & respect" in exchange for them to spend money.

Completely agree, Sulake have gone from providing an alternative method of having fun to exploiting kids to line their own pockets.

As normal, people seem to forget that Sulake didn't just wake up one morning and think 'HEY LETS EXPLOIT KIDS AND STEAL THEIR PARENTS MONEY'. It has ALWAYS been their aim. So, why don't people stop thinking as if it is anything new, and get on with it. As I can tell you, if I ran Sulake I would aim to get every single last penny out of as many kids as possible.

Look at Jagex. Not sure if it is still the same, but if you bought their membership via SMS (which for many people, is their only option) you had to pay 6 POUNDS. With habbo, you can get membership for about £1.50 - oh what money stealing, thieving gits.

Infact if I was Sulake, I would make VIP a money paying extra (you can only get it by buying it, no in game credits to buy it for you. Or allow people to buy it on the hotel, but charge extortionate credit prices. And don't get me starting on really exclusive 100 credit rares.

Sure, it was their purpose all along; but they did once care about their users.

6 pounds for the amount of stuff you get with membership in Runescape is very well worth it, unlike habbo. Jagex at least listen to what there community says (free trade for example).

Sulake has always been a business looking to make money yes however old business tactics were to help Habbos enjoy the experience so that they would want to pay for things, now they make them pay before they can even enjoy it as much as they don't do half the community stuff.

Sulake were interested in members until they released the Habbo Exchange, this was very good for members - not good for sulake, they realised it and had to change their whole plan. It would have been more simple to get rid of the exchange.

Sulake made a massive business mistake with the exchange, and we all know how big an uproar the tax was. But if they just removed it, I think some people would commit suicide or something

I agree, when the exchange came in i though "what the hell? There must be a catch, no way sulake would do this as it's going to actualy lose them money". I waited for a while and was genuinely surprised, it seemed sulake just created the exchange without thinking and only after realised their grave mistake.
