Layout size?

I'm designing a layout for my new site, but i'm not sure which size to design it in on photoshop?

Cause some computers use 800x600 and my laptop uses 1280x800

so any help? :)

Don't know who uses 800 x 600 to be honest..

Most layouts and be expandable so just design and don't stress too much, what you should be stressing about is cross-coding browsers!

I always like to keep my content confined to around 978px, most computers now use 1024x768 so you should be safe designing your layout for 978px. If you want to get more advanced look up more on 960 or 978 grid system which I use. http://tinyurl.com/34baavp

I'd say go for anything inbetween 900px and 1000px

The majority of people will be using screens with resolutions higher than 1280x800 these days. (Unless it's on a tablet device but you might want to do a mobile version if thats the case).

Only 1% of people are still using 800x600 and that statistic is from a year ago. I'd suggest making is usable for 1024x768 and more.

Also the 1% are likely to be schools or librarys that still use old CRT screens.

As a mac user I never maximize my window, I always keep it wide enough so that I never have the scroll bar at the bottom. Facebook does a good job with having it at the absolute minimum width, which I like. Stuto's website would make me have to widen my browser window.

All of the content however fits in the same space as facebook. The only reason it's a bit wider is to allow room for the logo and then it's evened again on the other side.

always design to at max 960px. Youve got to account for the up/down scroll bar at the side too, as well as a bit of padding of the sides

i use 900px main frame, and just have the bg img going outside for the rest of un-used space.
