- 10th Anniversary Year Marks the Best in the Social Game’s History

Helsinki, Finland, January 20, 2011 -- Habbo Hotel, the world’s largest teen virtual community and social game, has now reached 200 million registrations. Each individual registration equals one virtual character called a “Habbo.” The 200 millionth Habbo was created during the first week of January in Habbo.com in the US.

Habbo Hotel was founded in 2000, when the first community launched in Finland. Since then, it has expanded worldwide, and currently has users from more than 150 countries globally. Habbo Hotel garnered its first 100 million registrations in June 2008. This new milestone indicates growth has accelerated substantially in the past two and a half years.

Habbo Hotel celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2010. It was also the site’s most successful year, as 42 million registered characters logged in, representing one-fifth of the total Habbos ever created. These characters spent over 400 million hours enjoying the social game and community over the entire year.

“It’s been a wonderful journey to see Habbo Hotel grow during the past 10 years from a small Finland-based virtual community to a service reaching millions of users every month worldwide. Celebrating 200 million registrations is truly a milestone for us,” said Timo Soininen, CEO of Habbo’s parent company Sulake. “The fast, continuous development of Habbo Hotel has enabled us to make quick changes and create new features according to our users’ needs. We are excited to reveal many fresh and exciting features and improvements in 2011.”

Sulake published two blogs earlier in January regarding the success of Habbo Hotel in 2010. For more details, visit the Sulake blog.

Well you got to remember that firstly the vast majority of these probably never logged in more than once and secondsly that a load of them would be clones.

Still a great amount nonetheless.

Wow. To gain 100million members in two/three years is an achievement.

I remember the 100 millionth member received like a Nintendo Wii and lots of Habbo items. She must've been a hack favourite.

They've been advertising hard in the last year or so though so it's understandable

The thing is, if you joined a site for the first time and they said 'CONGRATULATIONS YOU WON A MACBOOK AIR!' we'd think its a scam :P

Yeah lol, such a waste that she quit though :P reinforces my earlier comment on how the vast VAST majority of that 200 million have never logged in more than once or twice.

The 'grip' that keeps new habbo players playing on the hotel isn't there anymore, its not as fun now. Newbies wouldn't understand going to peoples rooms just to play games like 'Battle Banzai. If the game icon was still there, it would keep more users.

It just shows Habbo's rising popularity.

2000 > 2008 = 100,000,000 users registered
2008 > 2010 = 100,000,000 users registered.

At this rate we'll be close to 300 million registered accounts by the end of the year.

Its probably 90% down to being able to join through facebook. Any bets at least 1/4 of them account never even loaded the game.

Agreed,

With regards to thewinners last post, believe it or not it took me 2 days when i first joined habbo (on the usa hotel) to figure out how to chat :P.

I think though in all fairness theres just as much help there fo newbies as there used to be (perhaps even more) they just do it in different ways. I remember when habbos (habbo-x habbos i think) used to sit in the welcome lounge and readily help newbies.

If they held a comp for that.. and I won that, I def wouldnt come back. It was probably a clone account anyways..

I know! Their adverts seem to follow me around the internet :(.

Congrats to them, but it shows that they're increasing in popularity and will probably start expanding again!
