I have a second-gen iPod touch 16GB, running iOS 4.0, jailbroken with redsn0w 0.9.5b5.

I want to put the latest firmware, 4.2.1, the last available firmware for my device, on it, then re-jailbreak (is there one for 4.2.1?)

So, hows the best way to go about it?

Also, are there any mods I can do to the second-gen iTouch? The screen occasionally goes white, and squeezing the back fixes it, so I reckon its a loose connection. So I want to check the connection, and fix the digitizer that's badly scuffed. But is there anything I can do to mod the internals?

There isn't an untethered Jailbreak (without having 4.2b3 SHSH blobs saved) AT THE MOMENT. So unless you're not bothered about it being tethered, update, and use redsn0w 0.9.6b7 (i think, w/e the latest one is)

I'd need an untethered one. I only use my iPod very occasionally, so I might not bother with the update.

Another quick question, will I be able to transfer this iPod to another PC while in its current state without problems? I intend to move the syncing from my dv6 to my main rig.

If you move all the files and the iTunes folder in music, it worked for me

That's easier done than said. I have a backup of the laptop's HDD on my desktop HDD.

I'm on 3.2.2 untethered jailbreak and I wont upgrade until there's an untethered jailbreak.

why dont you just upgrade to 4.2? seeing as your pretty far behind on the firmware side

Because of the lack of untethered jailbreak
