Moscow's Domodedovo airport, the busiest in Russia's capital, has been rocked by an explosion that has killed at least 31 people, officials say.
More than 100 people were injured in the blast, which reports suggest was the work of a suicide bomber.
Russia's chief investigator said the explosion was the work of terrorists, and President Dmitry Medvedev said the attackers would be tracked down.
The airport is 40km (25 miles) south-east of the city centre.
In the aftermath of the blasts, Mr Medvedev ordered increased security across Russia's capital and at other airports, and called an emergency meeting with top officials.
He also postponed his planned departure for this week's World Economic Forum at Davos.

R.I.P to all that died, very worrying considering I was there approx. this time last year at that very airport. The UK's Foreign Office said it was checking if any Britons were injured.

Surprising that they still haven't evacuated - it's well known that these situations sometimes result in multiple attacks?
edit - new news: 35 dead & Airport is not even blocked off and is infact still open, you can still get right up to the arrivals! Ridiculous. It's like they're asking for another attack

Saw this at school during last lesson. Shocking & intriguing. RIP to those who died. Interesting how London was all on high alert then this happens. But I suppose more attacks could follow...

You can expect the alert levels to skyrocket worldwide

Have they got more security personnel on site? They mat want to keep it open because of the status of the airport, and will be doing checks throughout while keeping low profile. If not, then they only have themselves to blame if it happens again shortly after.
RIP to all involved. Any idea what terrorist cell was behind it?

Or you know, they're just showing the terrorists that they cannot win and they'll carry on regardless. Russia is very very good at doing this.

Well it is a sad story/event, so RIP to all those involved.
But remember people, as much as your government likes you to think - there aren't actually terrorists hiding behind every tree waiting to come and blow you up, just a warning incase something happens here because in the state of panic they [the political class] will no doubt use it as a chance to destroy yet more of our civil liberties in the name of 'security'.

I'm not sure, it's really weird. They're not releasing any information at all - put it on if you can. A spokeswoman is speaking now but she's telling us what we already know. The only new bit of information is "it's not affecting departures because of the distance between arrivals and departures".
I've heard al-Qaeda mentioned a few times but nothing is confirmed.

That's all well and good but arrivals should be blocked off.

Why? If there aren't any bodies there any more I don't see why business shouldn't just continue as usual, it's just gonna be a bit bashed up is all.

Because live pictures clearly show bodies on the floor in arrivals.

I don't really understand terrorism in Russia but it's surprisingly "common", surely it's the Chechens as usual?
Just last year 40 people were killed in the Moscow Metro bombings.

Oh shut the **** up.
I've nothing against you, but this has NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING to do with your apparent hatred for anyone in power. Seriously, you couldn't just hold off for one god damn thread? People have died here today and you run around shouting out your political views which may or may not be correct. Frankly I couldn't care less. Now show some damn respect to those people by not using this thread as a platform for your frankly annoying political voice to be heard.

Yeh, you're right, it is usually those from the Baltic states such as Chechnya trying to attack the central government in Moscow. It seems to be happening too often to my liking, we had a metro, train and an airport blast all in less than a year an a half. I'm not sure if you could brand this 'internal terrorism' as a pose to al-Qaeda, as I actually doubt al-Qaeda has their sites set on Russia, if anything, they'll go for a western European/ American target.
Although, at the moment people are blaming it on things such as not enough security etc. Will be interesting to see more when details of the investigation come in.
I bet you, there will be a repeat of such an attack in at least the next 6 months, maybe not within the airports, but somewhere, somehow within the capital.

This. He seriously needs to stop putting a political spin on everything to prove his pretty poor point.

Yes I think it's quite inspiring really. It's like sticking two fingers up at the terrorists. :D
RIP to all those who died and I hope those who are injured recover :(

This is the character of Russian people. I was in Moscow just 2 weeks ago, and there was unattended package in the metro, everyone was smiling and just sitting there, I was the only one to run out at the next station. Might be paranoia or might be their determination to not think what could be and just carry on through normal life.

This is so true lol. Airport security isnt secure anywhere I think, I even heard on the news that someone smuggled in like 700 guns into the UK from America, so I guess we are never safe in airports!

it's annoying how it takes something like this for airports to bump up their security, hate hearing about things like this :(

Grow up love, is it that time of the month for you today? people have died and I said thats sad, not much more to say on that side of it really now is there except for the fact which I then went onto explain that these events are rare so its nothing to get into a state of fear about. We could all just post 'RIP XXX' but that'd make a pretty boring thread, and besides i'm only stating the truth - if you disagree then prove me wrong with some examples or are you not aware of how they use disasters such as this, such as 9/11 and 7/7 to take away ancient liberties? I hate the people in power because they use terrible events such as this as an excuse to make a power-grab - if you want to get your knickers in a twist then get them in a twist over that.
Respect? so posting 'shut the **** up' in this thread is respectful is it? hypocrite.

Disagree with my 'pretty poor' point? then prove me wrong. If you can't do that, then follow Nials advice.
It is clear from recent history that authorities use events such as this as an excuse to remove civil liberties - so come on, prove me wrong.
