Apologies if the person who made the play-offs thread is annoyed that I made this, but I felt we needed a thread solely for one of the biggest sporting events of the year - the Super Bowl.
Who do you think will win the famous trophy? Packers are the favourites by 2 are the moment. Should be a great game. Steelers overcame the Jets last night 24-19 and the Packers defeated the Chicago Bears 21-14 to earn their spot at Super Bowl 45 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

*Biggest American sporting event
Don't anger the Brits here, they're scary!
I'm rooting for the Pack myself, used to be a big Packers fan because of my aunt. Now I just have teams I like and teams I hate (like the Pats).
Being in the suburbs of NYC I would've liked the Jets to have made it but owell.

Go Steelers. I think it's going to be a close one like in 2009 I predict 27-21.
But first the Pro Bowl :P
do europeans even get the broadcast of the game?
i picked the packers... i hate roethlisberger

Pro Bowl this weekend, just over a week away from the big one now.
TBH, even as a 'Brit', I'd safely agree this is currently the biggest sporting event in the world, one which I'll most definitely be staying up to watch, even though the Pats decided to not be in it... D:

surely events like the world cup etc are bigger than the super bowl :P
if you said this year then I'd agree
oh and packers probably
I'm going with the Packers in this one because I hate the Steelers and I sort of like the Pack since my uncle lives in Wisconsin. And yes, the Super Bowl is without a doubt one of the biggest sporting events EVERY year whether or not their is a world cup.

For anyone interested, there's a great program on Sky Sports that's on every day from between 3-5pm I think it is, called NFL - America's Game, which gives a detailed report of the Super Bowl champions, with a different team being featured in each episode. 3-4 of the players from that particular team also help to tell the story, and it's a really interesting insight into how the team went about the season, their attitudes and feelings towards winning the Lombardi trophy, etc.
Been watching it every year around this time for 3 years now, as it's normally shown the week or so before the Super Bowl, love it.

Yes, the world cup is the biggest sporting event in the world, but that's every four years. The biggest annual sports event is the Superbowl, but you can't compare because of how little the American Football global audience is in comparison to original football.

Half-time show was utter ****, it actually pains me to watch the BEP.
The Pack are choking, 21-3 up late in the 2nd quarter, Steelers have pulled it back to 21-17 early in the 3rd. Can never count out Big Ben.

Touchdown, that should do it. Jennings wide open in the end zone, Steelers have choked. Can't believe they didn't capitalize on their momentum, was expecting them to get ahead after their 2nd TD. They COULD tie it, but I can't see it happening now. It'd take a big, big last quarter from Big Ben and the Pittsburgh offence to give them a chance.

Wow, it's happening. Steelers TD followed by a successful 2-point conversion attempt. 28-25, 7:29 remaining - Steelers right back in this ball game now. Just wow.

Field goal by Green Bay, 31-25, big moment as they missed a golden opportunity for the touchdown.
Big Ben's moment is here. Pittsburgh thrive under these kind of situations, all feels very familiar to Super Bowl 43 when the Steelers did the very same thing to my team the Cardinals.

I watched the first quarter and fell asleep just before half time. Even though I didn't understand any of it apart from its the same as Rugby but are allowed to pass forward, tackle off the ball (and also where pads like poofs) and stopped every 5 seconds for a break (seriously why is it so stop-start? :S).
But yea. Missed the second half...

If they didn't wear pads than they would all be brain-dead after sooner or later. You know nothing about football clearly so don't talk. Not talking down on rugby I'm just saying there are a lot of big hits in football on people that aren't always looking and the momentum does a lot of damage.
