Hey guys,

I was just thinking the other day about making a book/film club on the forum. I think it would be a great thing for users of the forum and I decided to create a poll to see how much interest there would be in it. At the moment this isn't a definate thing, i'm just making a poll to see how much interest there is in this and to see peoples comments/suggestions on the idea.

If there is enough interest in a book or/and a film club, i will set one or both of them up. The way it would work would be that if you want to join all you got to do is send me a PM saying you want to join the book or/and film club. Absolutely anybody can join, the main reasons for sending the PM is so that i can keep track of who's participating and to ensure that people who aren't part of the club don't vote in the polls (I'll explain this in a moment).

The way the Film club would work is that for every week or two ( Or whatever time period best suits the members) I would post a poll with a choice of films. The most voted film would be the film we would watch that week. You won't have to worry about me posting bad film choices, i'll do research to make sure that all the choices are good films ;). Each time there would be a good variety of choices from older films to recent releases in the cinema. Once the time period for watching the film has passed we would all discuss it/ give opinions/ give short reviews of it in a thread. The only thing i'll ask is that people who participate make a reasonable effort to watch the film at some point during the set period of time. You'll be given plenty of time to watch it. You can rent it, borrow it, watch it online etc.

The book club would work pretty much the same way as the film club. However there will probably be a longer time period to read the book (Perhaps a month). This is because it takes more time to read a book than to watch a film and people tend to like to read books at a leisurely pace.

So please vote in the poll and leave your opinions/comments on this idea here. :) I'm just giving the basics of the clubs here, they can be added to and expanded upon so i'd like to hear what people have to say.

I don't see the point of this. Book and film clubs are personal forums in themselves, and here we are on an internet forum where people can discuss the above all they like.

I think he means that we watch a film and discuss it afterwards, so watch the film at the same time (obviously not in person :P). It's interesting, but it doesn't desperately have to be official. You could write threads in the Book/Film forums in a "are you watching this/what do you think/ discuss/" sort of way, which members have done with soap operas for a while. You could do it yourself if you can gage the attention enough :)

I think you misinterpretted this idea. Did you read all of my initial post?

Yes, I did. There's no need for clubs when you can just look everything up on the net.

Then why are you a member of a forum if that's the way you think?

Bit of a dumb question...

I'll let you work out the elephant in the room.

The main objective of this idea is discussion as is in a forum.

So i fail to see how it's a dumb question...

I wouldn't be interested in either. Doesn't look like a popular idea.

it's a decent idea in theory, but in practice people would be too lazy and it would fizzle out after a while.

Yes this I'm afraid. With all due respect, it actually is a fantastic idea laid on the paper but when it's incoporated I can just see it disappearing within a couple of sessions. If you want to try this out then go ahead and I wish you the best of luck! :)

I don't think that is necessary, because everyone will have their different opinions on how good a film is and that's kind of the point of clubs like these, to discuss them and decide what everyone thinks. You should choose a wide variety.

I personally think that discussing things with other people is more interesting than reading reviews from other people, but maybe that's just me.

This is a forum and its a place to discuss things, we dont all like going on an expert opinion when theres people on here with similar intrests who will have different opnions to some middle aged man watching a film then writing a formal review.

It sounds like a good idea but like preposterous said I think itd get unused and just burn out :(
