Well yeah... the amount of times I've forgotten to put the YouTube tags around a video and it's just turned up as a URL is actually countless.. Then I have to go edit it when I realise and re-do it.
So anyway, my suggestion - When you post a YouTube link it automatically comes up as a video.
I know a few other forums have this - including HabbCrazy - but yeah..
So, simply - when you copy & paste a YouTube url it automatically comes up as a video.
I think it'll save me and a few other forgetful people some time..

-/endsuggestion.

Is it too difficult to have the YouTube tags :P Some people may want to post a direct link for the comments or the full "story" of the video, and some may like the link because it seems courteous not to force a video upon someone (especially in posts that don't want to drag attention away from the thread creator). An interesting idea, but is it really needed?

Not really forcing a video upon somebody - it's their choice whether they want to watch it or not.
&If they want to link to comments can't they just use the [URL] tags?

You could just click the button for posting videos aswell. I don't really see the big need for this hmm.

I'm thinking more of "it shows up, loads the preview picture and tells you stuff". It's distracting, but nothing too annoying. URL tags seems like a lot of effort for something the forum does automatically by default :P It depends if whoever is in charge of the forum wants to install it I guess, and if it will get used by people wanting it. It'll be interesting to see what others think at least :)

I agree with Gomme and Matt on this one.

People may want to post a link instead of an embedded video. It's not that difficult to click the button or put tags around it.

This :P is it really hard to click the button?

I also agree with the fact that some people may just want to post a link instead of embedding the video. I don't think it is worth installing as there is a tool already there that takes 2 seconds to use.

All this would achieve is swapping the problem with the same but a more frequent problem.
