Bloody cheaters..

You could say Bing is taking a cue from its competition, but it seems to be more literally taking search results as well. Google Fellow Amit Singhal is claiming so much and has provided some amusing (if not totally clever) results from its "Bing Sting." Here's how it works: find a search term that returns no matches for either site, make a "honeypot" page manually appear for the term, then have about 20 Google employees make the search (and click the top link) using Internet Explorer with both Suggested Sites and the Bing Toolbar on. Within two weeks, Singhal claims, a handful (about 7 to 9) of the 100 or so "honeypot" results were popping up in Bing. Bizarre choices, too, like mbrzxpgjys, hiybbprqag, and indoswiftjobinproduction.

Microsoft doesn't innovate anything these days.

One of my friends in journalism wrote an article about this. Google are being hypocrites and this story of Microsoft "cheating" when it comes to search engine ranking is nothing compared to what Google do.

Click the News tab on Google, and you'd get what I am talking about - Google piggy back news articles from the BBC and other websites all the time, they're no different. Both are obviously doing a "good" as they are providing views to each individual website, but Google gets the credit as they're the first place you go for when it you want news, rather than go immediately to the source. So they're both as bad as each other :/

I saw this on Engadget.

I don't think they're copying anyone - obviously it means Bing has a very resourceful indexing algorithm though!

I don't care what they're doing, as long as I can carry on searching.

And pigs fly... why would Microsoft have Google AND Bing, why would Microsoft have Chrome and Internet Explorer, why would Microsoft have Chrome OS AND Windows, why would Microsoft have Windows Phone Seven Series AND Google Android, why would Microsoft have Google Docs, Microsoft Office AND Office Online, why would Microsoft have Gmail and Hotmail, why would Microsoft even have two brands.

Also nobody owns Google or Microsoft, you should learn how shares work.

Did you not see me say, excuse me if I am wrong, I was always told by college he did.
I'm sure Hitler said 'Excuse me if I'm wrong, but I think Jews are the work of the devil.' and everyone just let him off the hook. Also, your college telling you that is just ****** up.

Over reaction, much? :P I think he learnt he was wrong before your post :P

Also, although they are two seperate companies, it's not strange to find companies owned by the same company making rival products. The car world is littered with examples :P

Excuse me if I am wrong, but the majority share holder does basically own the company lol.

As far as I am aware, the majority share holder pretty much owns the company.

For example, Bill Gates could fire Steve Ballmer if he wished to do so?

---------- Post added 05-02-2011 at 03:44 PM ----------

Also, when Bill eventually dies, if he is still the majority share holder (although he sold off a lot didn't he?) he could have it in his will that his relative can now take his shares - so his relative can now fire Steve Ballmer

It varies, some places have rules where the majority share holder cannot change the course of the company or fire anyone willy nilly if the other shareholders feel it is a wrong step. They have a huge say, but in some cases they can get in trouble by other shareholders if they feel they're acting for the sake of acting on an idea. Most majority share holders do not care if they're making money at the end of the day :P
