Hey everyone!
So basically I'm in the middle of chosing a job for work experience and was jsut wondering what everyone did/is going to do for theirs? Also I'm stuck for ideas so it might give me some inspiration as the idea I have atm isn't anything I want to do in the future!
I went to work with a landscaping company.

I went to a school. My old one. But they gave me the nursery kids which I didn't want.
But it was fun.
I went to an architects office. I was making a 3d model (to scale) on the computer of one of the flats they were doing. I also did like my own little house as a side prject. Was well good fun.

email John Lewis about a local branch. trust me, it's decent work experience and looks fantastic on your CV - the only reason i got a job only after having no retail experience ever was because of my work experience at john lewis.
I went to a primary school and taught year 3 and year 4, I enjoyed it so much I asked to go for a second week recently and was allowed

I went to a job agency, it was **** but it was a last resort, since everything I went to just kept bailing because I left it too late (lol).

I'm going to a family-friend's company he does public relations with media etc.
I originally wanted Capital FM or BBC but Capital you have to be 16 and I'll only be 15, and BBC is so hard to get (my Dad knows some high-ranking people and couldn't get anything).
I got my placement but then was offered Channel 4 (via school) but I didn't want to let my Family-friend down because he's really excited about having me so yh.
It depends what you're interested in. As you can tell I'm interested in media/drama although I did look into banks or stockbrokers - most of which only take 16+ ;l
A friend of mine is doing Game Testing (jammy **** lol) and another is working in a dentistry. If your Dad works somewhere interesting ask him - I asked my Dad but his company is strictly Post-grads only. If you don't know anyone, then look up companies and look at the "Jobs" section and see if it mentions work experience. Maybe send them an email saying your situation and you'd like to do work experience there etc.
A few people said this already, but finally...your old school is a very popular choice. Loads of my friends are doing that, go and help with the school, apparently it's not too hard (basically you just hand sheets out for the kids, help tidy up etc.) and if another friend does it with you it can be a laugh.
Those are my suggestions :)

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm hoping to do something that might interest me but so far I've only thought of travel agents as I enjoy geography (I didn't take it though :S not sure why not, regret it now)

Wow.. you are interested in everything I am! I tried to find PR near me there was nothing, nothing for media, nothing for drama. My mums friend works in the media and would of probably been able to get me a placement in soemwhere like ITV or Channel 4 like you got offered but obviously as I'm in Portsmouth it wouldn't have been possible unfortunatley. I can't beleive you turned down Channel 4, I would snap that up and just hope the person understood what a great oppertunity it is!

I just put in two applications, one for a travel agents (priority) and one for an estate agents (priority backup) I'm allowed two more applications if I want.
We use this website and you rank them on how you want the applications to be given, so if my travel agents fails, then it goes onto estate agents, if that fails then I have another backup, and then i have like a final final backup and if that fails then i'll have to do private placement but I'm quite good in interviews and applications so I probably wont.. not sure what else to apply for though..
I went to a web design company, it was amazing :P

I was in admin office because I applied for places for media (BBC, Scottish Television, Local Radio - Galaxy etc.) and never got anywhere. My school forced me cryz but it was alright, everyone was nice and I got loads of hot chocolate from the coffee machine along with a huge lunch break. Plus side it was in town so there was lots of places to go, they even asked me to go out of the office to do jobs and stuff.

In Australia I worked in the Department Of Treasury And Finance.
Best place ever, first started off sorting a few accounting files then moved onto web-design.
Last couple of days I got moved up a few levels and did proper design there.. (They told me dont go to uni for it :D)
I loved it.
Initally, I was meant to get $5 a day.. But they bumped it to $10.. But on the last day they bumped it to $20.
So $200 for a week which scored me a new DS! :D

When i was doing my work experience, the school more or less chose for me unless i found one myself and unfortunately i was on holiday around that time, so didn't get a place to choose for myself. My school tried dumping me into a butchers, which made me complain to the school board and eventually i got a placement at the Riverside, Middlesbrough's football ground, behind the scenes working with all the office workers.
It was really good, although working life is better to be honest - nothing like earning your own money. ;)

I did two weeks in Cranfield University's Air Traffic Control tower, was pretty fun, had to check all the weather instruments, update the ATIS, file flight plans, listened in on the ATC, got a couple of flights out of it (almost went to Jersey but I didn't have my passport with me that day! :(), went bird scaring on the runway etc.
Luckily there was a girl there who was just starting her job at the same time as my work experience so we pretty much helped each other out and hung out at lunch time.

My sister's doing a work experience placement in the BBC 'Technology Support' team in March - she gets to watch how they produce the live news at six and is being shown around the radio shows each morning.
