Hey,

Bit of a strange problem here that I've had for a while, never really bugged me until now I need to reinstall Windows. The DVD drive on my laptop (Acer Aspire 5532) doesn't stay closed when it's turned on. If the laptop is turned off and I close it, it's fine, but as soon as I turn it back on it pops back open and won't stay closed at all until turned off.

Windows detects it and it's detected in the BIOS fine.

I was going to stick Windows on my USB and do it that way but I lost it :(

Any ideas guys?

Cheers!

Have you reinstalled yet or not? It could be a vbs script causing this. Check the task manager and see if you have a process called wscript.exe running.

No I haven't. It can't be anything on the operating system because it happens as SOON as it's turned on, like Acer splash screen and P.O.S.T etc

Depends what OS you want to network install. Most linux distros provide netinstall ISOs so they're easy, XP is alright once you get TFTP etc setup, Windows 7 needs a RIS server iirc.

Sometimes, depending on where my right wrist is, my Pavillion dv6's ODD ejects randomly.

Holding it shut wont work, Because when it tries to eject it would stop reading the disk and unmount it for ejection.

Sure there isn't anything stuck on/in the button that would cause it to open?

Well I tried holding/sellotaping it in but it would make the PC lock up so I gave up and did a USB install.
