Hey,
I'm not sure if you do this already, I know from past experiences you didn't unless it was just introduced. You should use the competitions forum account to give users their reputation rather than just add it to their current points. That way they'll know they actually received it and it'll stop confusion.

You might already do this, so if you do, my bad.

I don't think they do do that because they need to request it, but a good idea Richie at least that way the winner will definitely know that they have it on their account :D +rep!

I agree. I won 45 rep once but only actually got 30 when it was added to my account.

I agree, it's not exactly a make or break decision for the forum or the comps team but I feel it would be useful for whoever's dishing out the prizes as well as beneficial to the winners

This would be very useful as it is sometimes hard to keep up with Competition and Event reputation, maybe Events could do the same too?

Yeah it would be beneficial for most department prizes, I meant competition prizes as in general not just that department :P

This would be a good idea but the account would need a certain rep power and would not be affected by the rep limits. The only other problem though, is that there may be a limit to what they are allowed to give out and it can't be controlled as easily by management when given out using this method.

That's a very nice idea, Richie however recently GM have wanted rep to be "under control" and with this there is no way to tell who's got what. You could say this for every department as well (including events as they're giving out about the same as us now) but we'd not be able to tell how much we've given out in total.

Another problem is, which can be overcome, is that obviously not every rep prize is the same (normally 10, 15, 20 or 30). This means we'd have to have a power of 5 to make sure everyone gets the right amount but it also means pointlessly repping people elsewhere to make sure they get the prize they deserve. Nicola could then get a bit confused and, if someone reported reputation, remove the comps rep 'cos it looks pointless. It could mean quite a bit more work for us as well trying to find 6 posts if they win 30, especially to newer members who often post in the competitions on one of their first few posts (and no I'm not just saying it, I've seen it several times).

Thanks for the suggestion, Richie but it's obviously not upto us however I like it. +rep :)

I see the benefits of this however there are flaws, such as the rep limits and the fact different comps have different prizes - that and we like to track how much reputation is given out and there are limits.

If it's a matter of letting people know when it's been added perhaps it'd be an idea for Managers (from all depts) to leave a visitor message or PM for the member when the features request has been completed?

Inseriousity.

It's much easier to just tell people it's been added if they ask. It's not too common to be a major concern tbh. :)

Why not just allow the account to rep people as many times as it wants, and make it's rep power five?

After all - how many people win 6 rep points or something in a comp lol

Because it's far easier for a features manager to add 30 rep than it is for me to go round someone's posts and doing it that way.

It's because General Management won't be able to keep track of how much rep the competitions department are rewarding per month.

What Mike and Phil said basically. Like I said a rep power 5 is good but it means having to find 5 additional posts along with the competition entry it would take a lot longer than brandon or yoshi quickly adding it. Also, it may look like pointless rep and if there is someone who's won 30 rep but only has Post Count: 4 (and trust me, it happens!) then we're in a bit of a problem.

You could have a thread in feedback, post here if you won a competition. You'll have a list of those who won anyways and those who post looking for the reputation they earn, give it to them. Those who don't, ignore and delete the post. The mass majority choose furniture anyways, so I'd be surprised if more than five people posted in the thread daily anyways. As for the reputation limit, you should just have a set reputation prize for each competition, then have a big competition every month where you give users a chance to win more reputation. Again - Just a suggestion.

Why don't you just pm people to let them know you've added the x amount of rep instead if this would be a problem?

I really like Richies idea though, and if it's possible i would love to see it.

Of course.

I forgot even if you allow the account to rep the same person, youjn still can't rep the same post :p

That seems the most obvious answer. It'll be good to make whoever gives out the prizes accountable too - rather than talk to a person who acknowledges something than a system :P

Is there no Reputation Admin CP that allows comments, or is it just a basic "add x amount of rep/change x amount to x amount?"

I think it's just changing x to x, like if someone has 389 you change it to 399 and click save :P. I think that's how it is anyway, unless it's a rep task where they select a user and choose what to add/decrease but no, not comments as far as I'm aware!

That's correct, if someone had 200 rep and then won 20 you change it to 220 and click save.

I've had a discussion with Alex and we've decided that while we're not a big fan of the original idea, the compromise of sending people a PM to inform them that their rep has been added is something we can do easily and solves the same problem as the original idea.

Hope this is okay for everyone, thanks for the feedback :)

Great to hear :) It will stop people getting confused about wether or not they got their rep.

That was a speedy decision, good to know the idea was taken on board :)

Is it not possible to create an interface that'd allow for adding entries to people's rep logs?

Probably, but I think that it's not something major that needs fixing, not many people complain about where their rep is so that'd indicate most people don't mind thr current system. If managers want to PM people when rep is given out then they can, but for now atleast, I don't see the point in creating something to fix something that's not broken - perhaps something to look at in the future though.
