How Can I Improve This Forum (part 2)

My original thread, but it's been ages so I won't bump it up.

I asked for opinions on http://notebookinhand.com and I'd like some more. Within the next few days, I'll have an improved banner and hopefully improved icons.

I've cut down on the description of each section, and more of the forum is public (though not all of it because my members really wouldn't like that).

How else could I make it more attractive to new members? How can I encourage someone, just at a glance at the website, to see that it's a good and useful place?

So, I've just made it so that users can create tags, add to the calendar, and I added a reputation system as per suggestion. However so far members don't seem too enthused by the rep system, they think it'll 'rate popularity' rather than reward good posts.

I Really Dislike the Theme.

Deff gotta change it. maybe to like a note pade with the sprials down the left hand.. if you get what i mean?
