How to memorise lyrics

Of a song you don't particularly like?

I've got a grade for my singing coming up and my teacher has given me some songs I don't particularly like. They're just not my style, and I'm finding it really hard to memorise them. Bearing in mind I'm not allowed the lyrics with me and it's coming up quite quickly...I need a way to learn them.

Only thing is, I normally catch on lyrics really easily - but that's if I like the song. Which I don't particularly these songs.

Listen to it over and over and over and over and over and over again, no matter how awful it is, tis the only way you'll really learn anything well tbh :l

Or like the same way I revise - look, repeat, check - type thing until you know them :P

Lol okay thanks :) Only problem is, one of the songs i'm singing is a shortened version of the original and I can't find the shorter version :(

I don't like the sound of my own voice though. Other people say i'm a good singer but I hate listening to myself sing :'( lol.

I'd keep going through it numerous times in a day and begin doing it without the lyrics and see how you get on. If you have the determination you can definitely remember the words to a song :)

Just find the song on youtube and put it on your ipod and just listen to it on repear

Listening to it is the only way really, if you write down the lyrics and then listen to the song and read the lyrics at the same time it's easier to remember. Do it in sections once you get one section go onto the next and then try and add the 2 sections together etc. Songs tend to repeat themself as well so once you get one bit you'll probably find that it's there again in another part of the song as well

I guess the only way is to read the lyrics and listen to the song over and over again until it finally sticks. :P

Just put that song on repeat, and listen to it for 2-3 times then start singing to it, also check out the lyrics.

Yeah I'd say listening to it over and over. I have songs I hate but know the lyrics off by heart just because of the amount of times I've heard them on the radio, other people playing them etc :). Just keep listening and I'm sure you'll get it eventually, as someone else said try and read the lyrics as you listen too :P.
