View Full Version : Need a new laptop

One of the hinges on my old one just snapped from heat damage and the lid now folds diagonally, it looks trendy but it's probably not to healthy for the laptop. I need something around £400 almost entirely for web surfing, it should be able to handle full screen video at it's native resolution without sounding like it's running Crysis and the screen should be at least 15". I also prefer intel but that doesn't really matter at all.
I favour:
HP
I despise (Alot):
Dell
Sony (I doubt I'm within price range anyway)
I'd also prefer to buy from John Lewis because they have two year warranty by default but I'm flexible about that.
Any suggestions?

http://www.johnlewis.com/231132800/Product.aspx It's £30 more than you said. But it's HP, it's got a decent sized HDD, enough RAM, and should do full screen video. It has a better GPU in it than my dv6, which can do 720p with ease.

Oh that's very nice thanks, +rep
I'll still take any other suggestions. Also I'd be willing to pay a little more if it bumps up the battery life a bit.

Apart from having three motherboard replacements and two power adapter replacements in one year... nothing.

Yes, because either of those are £400
Also (not in reply to you Chippie, fair enough if you don't like them) Dell are fine, had no problems in the 100s of laptops I've used/purchased in the past 8 years.

I'm sorry but no, being "slow" is because of the user, Dell put the hardware in the machine and ship it to you, you pick what hardware you want, your fault if it's slow. Cheap? Depends what you want/buy... and break down? Not had any problems, again why would so many people rely on their hardware if they "broke down" constantly? Just seems like trash talk to me.
Lets keep this to the other thread, don't wanna spam up Chippie's.

Good luck with that, Flash runs like **** on Macs, it'll be just as "slow" and hot.
Oh also, if you tear apart a Mac I think you'll find they use the same core hardware as Dell, who use the same core hardware as everyone else. Funilly enough, so if it's slow, it's your fault.

its my fault if its slow? i have nothing but msn installed on this..
We've got 3 Dell Laptops?
Inspiron 1000 (OLD AS HELL)
Inspiron 1545 and
Inspiron 15
All run fine. Don't overheat. Aren't 'slow', have never broke and were all under £450.
Imho, Dell are one of the best you can get.
