Basically, me and alot of my mates are planning on going on a weekend/week away after our exams, and we need some suggestions as to where we could go. Thought about the obvious ones like Newquay etc., but basically just a beach town. The tackier the place, the better :L. +Rep for any decent suggestions.

We (my mates) were going to Newquay until we decided that Turkey sounded better at a low price. Newquay have a good apartment called Berties Lodge if you're after advice :)

I would say Newquay, seeing as I'm basically there and love their beaches and shops :)

Brighton has always been known as the UK seaside city.

I come from Scotland and there are some fantastic beaches around the coast! I'd probably recommend the west coast of scotland for beautiful scenery but if you're wanting to stay nearer the cities and all the 'goings on' I would stay on the east/north east coast. St Andrews has a fabulous beach so I'd probably recommend that :)

Seriously haz go to Newquay, you'll have a ball. The beaches are lovely, there are so many people your age and there's always something to do at night for a decent price. The only major bummer is that the police are really REALLY strict about alcohol, and clubs wont let you in if they think you've drunk too much so :(

Why you should go to Blackpool ^ :')
I've lived here for 13 years and tho it has its down sides there are plenty of upsides to it and i have enjoyed many of summer down on Blackpool beach :') But ATM they are redoing all the tram tracks from Blackpool to Fleetwood so the trams are out of use till god knows when and the prom is being redone so it looks better :')

Thanks for all your suggestions, keep them coming :). In terms of prices, from the ones listed, what would you say would be cheapest? (Asking in general). Brighton, Newquay & Blackpool etc. seem to be the most popular choices.

EDIT: When I say cheapest, I mean in terms of attractions, food, accommodation, etc.

Blackpool is REALLY cheap to me, UK's best and most original theme park is there with like the best rides ever too so you should go there. The main road of Blackpool where the sea and beach is has a LOAD of arcades and stuff and like probs 100 hotels on the big long road. The theme park is also on the same road as the Pleasure Beach so yeah it's like tons of fun ON THE SAME ROAD.

Brighton was the best place for beaches.

If you want to go into the pleasure beach i think its £45 for adults but you get discount online, and there are the piers which are good fun, there are alot of hotels on the sea front and there is also fleetwood and cleveleys hotels. It doesn't cost too much in blackpool and its well worth the trip :)

Brighton, Salcombe (in Devon), and the various places others have saidWho the **** would go to Salcombe for a piss-up with their mates? :L - It's more for multi-millionaires and their yachts.

Brighton is a bit expensive for a lads holiday too, it's the typical beach town yes but it doesn't make it right. I'd stick with Newquay or any towns close-by. Skegness & Blackpool wouldn't be bad either.

Brighton or Eastbourne, it's pretty cheap here in Eastbourne and it's the sunniest town in the UK. Loads of nice beaches here.

st. ives is beautiful. can be very expensive though.
my opinion of it might be a bit high though because when i went we stayed in a 3 story 5 star apartment that was better than my own house, by far 8-)
and i didn't pay a penny because a friends mum did for her 18th.

stayed in barry recently. nice and tacky. nice beach, good few things to do :) pretty cheap to stay at!
