I recently dug up this Toshiba Satellite L300-1AP I had lying somewhere and was shocked at how well it is running. It's only running on 1gb ram (I believe one must have got lost somewhere in the system or burned out) but I mean it has its downs but everything runs pretty smoothish but was thinking of buying 4GB Ram, (2 2gb sticks) from Crucial who say my laptop is compatible but was wondering is it worth getting 4gb? Will I see most of the improvements?

From 1GB to 4GB? You will see an improvement indeed. What operating system is it running?

Is it 32 bit or 64 bit? Start Menu > Right Click "Computer" > Properties > Then it should list it there.

32 bit. Why?

32 bit. Why?

If I remember correctly, 32 bit will show like 3.3 or 3.5GB of the ram and not the full 4GB due to the limitations on 32 bit. Although I may be wrong on that.

That's fine. I wouldn't of expected the full 4gb anyway, If I do get it all the better but I won't be disappointed :P But £47 for 4GB Ram including postage not bad?

Bare in mind that when using 64 bit windows, the full 4GB can be used (0.5GB) will used for onboard GFX so that leaves you with 3.5GB usable.
So, you would only have 2.5-3GB RAM on 32bit :)

I had an L300 on 2GB RAM with Windows 7, and it flew like **** off a shovel.

4GB would be beneficial.

Before buying the 4gb for £47 I'd check out http://www.mrmemory.co.uk/ they are very good with price. I was trying to find your laptop but I got upto Toshiba > Satellite Series > L300, not sure if that is the accurate one but definitely check it out! :)

Crucial is 14 pence cheap ;D

Btw, I have changed to 64 bit to make the most of the ram.
