so the times come when my sony ericsson has succumbed to 3 years of usage; three ski trips on my person at all times, numerous drops, flooded with water at one point and now the number '1' no longer works. tbh i hate looking for mobile phones and it wears me down and in the end i just wanna cry so heres why im asking you

my requirements are

buying it on pay as you go (i have a contract but its not up for another 3 months so i cant get an upgrade)
ill be using facebook, twitter and general internet connectivity
can't be too pricey (less than =< £150 please)
dont have a preference on if its a bar-shaped phone or touch screen, as long as its fast and responsive

I recently got a HTC Smart from Tesco and it costs around £100, its o2 pay as you go and when you buy it you get 10 free top up which gives you unlimited internet and 300 free texts, its not a smart phone like the other HTC's it use's something called brew (don't ask me what it is cause i haven't a clue). Its a touch screen and has relatively fast internet. I think its a great price and is practical :')

Well you can get a new Blackberry curve for £130.
BBM is obviously superb, relatively decent interface. Can use fb, twitter and the net with ease.
the Ericsson Xperia is relatively decent and is on the android system for about £100.
HTC have a few phones were they're cheap second hand, I used to have a legend which is pretty sleek and nice.

Also with Orange with the pay as you go top up plan, topping up £10 a month will give you 100MB internet and 300 free texts.

Don't get a blackberry - crash all the time, don't have a decent app store etcetc

I think your best bet is with android, and you could get either the Sony Ericsson:

Not bad little phones, and under the price you're looking for.

I was going to also recommend the Experia Mini X10 (Not the X8), this is an amazing little phone for under 100 quid. As I have read, your already on a contract so need to worry about what deals your getting regarding the credit etc, plus its great for social networking. Its also half price at the moment from £199 down to £99!

But if you would like something with a qwerty keypad, heres the same phone with one!

i forgot to mention i am anti-blackberry. waaaay too many people have them and i dont like the idea of following the crowd. my sister has one and most of my friends do and they'll all broken within a year.

i was looking at the sony ericsson x10 actually! is the android OS fast? thats my main concern, the last samsung i had was touchscreen and it was so slow.

It depends what you put on it, the OS itself, is fast - some apps run better than others on certain phones. Overall, it's good.

If you've been with your ericsson for a while and aren't too fussed about bb hype or what not then it probably is best to stick with sony ericsson for the familiarity. I would recommend the x10 and yeah it has a fast processor.

I'd go with a blackberry curver for your specifications ;) It fits them ideally.

I mean I have a blackberry curve 9300 and I love it. Haven't had one problem ever. I'm on O2.
It's fast, the new OS 6 software is slick and stylish, simple and clear. BBM is amazing and the internet and so on is so easy to use but if you don't like BlackBerrys then that's your choice.

Blackberrys are good dont get me wrong. I have the Curve 8900. But the problem is the the cheaper ones like 8900, Curve 8520 are not 3G and therefore the internet isnt the best and not very fast.

If it was up to me with a budget of 150 id deffo go with the HTC Wildfire
http://www.phones4u.co.uk/shop/shop_payg_details.asp?ItemKey=424400&sr%3D1103%26du%3D10074_8%25B7%253F5%25CA%251C7%252 15P%25E5%25D3%25F3%25A3%2517%25E9%25AB%25CC%2586%2 51A%25A0u%25C4%2598o%25C9%259B%25CA%25E1%2504%25CF q

Prices range between 130-150 depending on the network but really it depends on ur specific needs. The phone however is great for social networking and general browsing. I know of a few people who have the phone and love it and i had a quick play around on it. Very responsive and internet is quite fast

I wouldnt go for the above, my mum has just had to buy a new phone because of it, it crashes all the time, the touch screen is unresponsive and it's just plainly rubbish for it's money. I was going to suggest an iPhone but with your price range, it won't be possible. I would however suggest the new Sony xperia, my mums just got it, it is really good for the money, comes with wifi and it's an android phone so you can download apps ect. It's only £100

Or go to a Phones 4u and they'll pay off your remaining bills, depending on what you're looking for!?

I'd recommend a S.E x10 mini tbh, sounds the best idea. Durable, nice size, and the best touchscreen a phone that size has been and probably will see for a year or two?
The curve 8520 is a poor man's blackberry, it's terrible. There's a reason why the Bold's and Torch don't have problems... people are paying good money for them!

top tip for any smartphone, but it network branded and NOT unlocked because they're liable to fix it. especially orange, they're fantastic. To this date i've had 11 of their phones... including three different types of handsets.

just to expand on an earlier point for matts budget (£150 down) he's just gonna able to get the blackberry i have the 8520 and it is the worst phone ever. the only blackberry that has any substance is the torch and you pay for that substance. the curve is a mess. everybody i know at uni and at college who had one wanted to throw their's out of a window. they're glitchy, they crash, everything is terrible quality. the touchpad gets filthy amazingly quickly as does the curve itself, it always looks a mess. and bbm isn't THAT great a feature, there's only two people i regularly bbm on there, and to be fair i text one of them more than i bbm them! if youve got unlimited texts, which is what i have, then bbm is pretty useless.

i've had THREE of the same blackberry in and out of replacements. it's a joke. and anyone who tells you their blackberry is "good" is indenial.
