I've recently bought a dedicated server as an upgrade to my old one and I've found that I'll probably have waay more resources than I need.

Specs:
12GB RAM
AMD 2.3GHZ 4 cores.
1.5Tbx2 RAID 1

I was running before 4GB of RAM and half the CPU of this server to run 2 Garrysmod servers (Plus a Dev Garrysmod Server only on when needed) and a Web Server. Currently the same idles at about 3.5GB of RAM on this server, I'm planning to add in a third Garrysmod server sometime soon.

I was wondering if someone would like to run a Habbox minecraft server(/s) on my dedicated, if you're interested, post below with suggestions on whether it should be survival only, spawn items, mixture, restrict spawning to basic items etc. Please only apply to run the server if you have been a member a while, I don't want to be handing out access to anybody.

I was also wondering what kind of limit on slots I would need on this, I would prefer not to use ALL the resources.

Edit: It actually idles at 3GB when I don't leave all the windows open.
Edit2: I need to auto log people off the server, idles at 2.5GB when I logged off one of my admins.

I wouldn't mind running it for everyone though, and I have an McMyAdmin Professional license so we can get a nice web-based panel running :)

I'm off for the night, I'll carry on setting it up tomorrow. Right now we have the server and admin panel up and running so all I'll need to sort out tomorrow is Bukkit and the Bukkit plugins we need :)

I don't think the high lighted should be spawnable, if they were then there would be hardly any point in gathering stuff yourself, plus there not exactly hard to get when people are in need of them. As for boats they can be broken down to get the wood.

I dont think item spawning should be enabled at all, for ANYONE (including admins (except nether stuff)).

How was the village setup on the old one ? I just remember joining and there being a nice wall with lots of houses n stuff already so i dont really remember. I just think maybe create a 'safe' zone before u make it public and then everyone will be fine. No one really got bored before, and if anything ppl will get bored if you allow spawning since there'll be much, much less to do.

Also TNT block dmg = off. Tnt dmg to players/things = on.

The problem you get is people chopping every nearby tree, so perhaps there should be a rule of replanting trees?

I've sent a ticket to their support and I've been assigned to another support department or whatever (I think they stage their support so that people wondering why servers won't boot without /system32/ don't get passed onto people who actually go to the machines and look at the problem / waste their time).

Hmm, something weird is going on with the server at the moment, looking into it, it's either griefing or a major glitch.

Edit: Turns out someone renabled tnt *glares at Recursion...again*, I forgot the password for the admin panel again so I can't restore from a backup right this second. I'll be looking into some slightly better ways of preventing tnt from being used (ie insta-ban, stopping creepers from spawning and disabling /item for everyone as well)

To add on, it's because the server hasn't been updated to 1.4 due to the plugins not being updated fully yet. You can always downgrade in the mean time if you want to come on.

If there's a way to either just fix that bit of map or to save the area I've been working on that would be fab as I've been clearing, landscaping and building for the last like 3 hours and I'd rather not lose that work for a house and bit of plain wooden bridge that was probably built in 5 minutes using admin tools, cheers

Rolled the map back to last night.

This means anything that was stolen from chests that weren't locked whilst LWC was down will now be back to normal and any lava etc has gone.

Big Brother is now working again so next time it happens, we'll be able to rollback the area and ban whoever the hell did it.

Yes, always keep RAID.

And log to a RAM disk and write the the HDD with via cron often. It's how I do the logs on my webservers.

We now have our block logger installed and working, it logs every block destroyed/changed/created, every fire put down/spread, every lava put down/spread, every creeper exploded, every sign put down (+ it's contents) and every chest open/destroyed/changed for 7 days, which also means we have the ability to roll back specific blocks/block areas, so we shouldn't have anymore griefing issues.

Also Matt and Adam now have the ability to whitelist people, restart the server etc etc.

Chippie was being a bit of a n00b to put it nicely and we had complaints... so we moved, and it seems to us for the better. Since we moved we've had more players around, been able to implement more features and haven't been moaned at for causing high CPU load :P

It's the same provider Chippie went with iirc.

I've virtualized it so Minecraft has 4.5GB RAM (512mb for the OS) and 2.5GB for cPanel which leaves 1GB for the host OS, this way we could host our sites on it so we could pay for it out of our own pockets. Obviously we wouldn't expect donations to cover the whole cost since we're hosting on it, but some of it would be nice.

Why would we? The walls and the castle wasn't done this evening, the map reference was there to show the aerial view of it all. We had large supplies of cobblestone in another location where we were based which was then used to build the walls and the castle itself, although we had to dig out for more cobble. The castle/walls were done in one day either.

If its in regrades of any of the resources what so ever, then it can take quite some time to get enough for what you want to build but once you have enough and store it and so on. Then it isn't really much a problem, especially when there is more than one of you helping out :P

The area that is covered by walls is some sort of island. There will be more buildings added inside the grounds at a later date (people can build within there if they ask permission), outside the walls we have created a harbour with a boat hire building and another building which we have called the customs for a laugh. Next to that, we have a runway to act like an airport for the island.

The main building within the grounds is a castle type building which still needs finishing off but yeah!

Oh and jack are you any good at redstone btw? Might need to hire you :P

Ah I was trying to recreate some runway lights and redstone torches matched up with what I wanted to do. Just a shame there's no green torches haha!

On my server i created a giant redstone repeater circuit under a runway i built to make the lights flash, you should do that!

I haven't seen these houses but I think I can explain things. I haven't even been looking for clay, but I've found more than enough to build a brick house out of, it's not hard to find.
I can't remember who was building the obsidian house, but they were asking people to donate obsidian and they were making their own obsidian from surface level lava pools and stuff, I'm pretty sure it's legit.

The brick house is made by a non-admin and even if he was an admin we don't have access to the /give or /item command (as tom's post points out). If you look around and explore then they can surely find some clay or even ask others if they have found any.

On another note, the obsidian = water & lava = just mine away, even though it takes time to get a block.

If you want to play on the server DO NOT update to 1.6 at this moment in time. The server will be updated to 1.6 when bukkit and the plugins the server uses are updated to work with the 1.6 update.

My V1 prototype (V0.5 I guess) grinder is now up and running, everyone (apart from biogeneric or whatever he's called these days) is free to use it if they want, just head south-west-ish. Top left of the map, near the massive wall.
I'll be adding a few extra floors and a slight modification to deal with spiders when I can get on a more powerful laptop, my current one crashes hard when I get near my grinder.
When the pistons get added (1.7?) I will be adding switches to control the level of the grinder, letting you use one floor, two floors, etc. for the amazing grinder V2 :)

Yes, the old map is saved and it will return once the server returns to Survival in the next few months.
