The annoying thing with dell, is that they suck you into theyre personalisation, and after you customise it, the price skyrockets.

They do tell you the prices of each option, there isn't much need to customise it either. :P

Select basic support on the first page, leave everything alone, go straight to checkout, job done for £599.

Not had problems with all the ones we've had (we only buy Dell for Windows laptops) in the past 10 years at work and home.

We used to only buy Dell and we never had any problems with them. My mom got a really nice laptop from Dell like 2 years ago and considering the amount of money she paid for it, it's garbage.. it eats hard-drives like nobodies business. We have a few Inspiron desktops at the office, I personally have one but I just use my MacBook because it has all my stuff on it and I can take it in the car..

It's either crappy HDDs or there's a problem you need to get them to fix with the Motherboard, no biggie.

Dell are fantastic.

We have a few XPS laptops, and they are seriously good :)

It does also depend on the price - a lower end product is never going to be as good as a higher end product.

EG. Inspiron < XPS

Someone who I know showed me their one year old Inspiron laptop today, and I thought the mouse (trackpad..) was a little unresponsive.
