Well I went to my doctors and he said I've got Acne. He gave me Zineryt to put on my face once a day, and Eyrthromycin Tablets BP 250mg - to take once a day too for 3 months.

Well I started them 3 days ago, and now I've been vommitting, and stuff... I searched the drug up just randomaly so I can find out what it actually does, and all the rewiews were negative, saying it's dangerious and stuff, saying it can course deafness and death.

heres wikipedia

Adverse effects

Gastrointestinal disturbances, such as diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, and vomiting, are very common because erythromycin is a motilin agonist.[8] Because of this, erythromycin tends not to be prescribed as a first-line drug. However, erythromycin may be useful in treating gastroparesis due to this pro-motility effect. Intravenous erythromycin may also be used in endoscopy as an adjunct to clear gastric contents.
More serious side-effects include arrhythmia with prolonged QTc intervals including Torsades-de-Pointe and reversible deafness. Allergic reactions range from urticaria to anaphylaxis. Cholestasis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and toxic epidermal necrolysis are some other rare side-effects that may occur.
Exposure to erythromycin (especially long courses at antimicrobial doses, and also through breastfeeding) has been linked to an increased probability of pyloric stenosis in young infants.[9] Erythromycin used for feeding intolerance in young infants has not been associated with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis.[9]
E.E.S. (erythromycin estolate) has been associated with reversible hepatotoxicity in pregnant women in the form of elevated serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase and is not recommended during pregnancy. Some evidence suggests similar hepatotoxicity in other populations.[10]
It can also affect the central nervous system, causing psychotic reactions, nightmares and night sweats.[11]
It may also alter the effectiveness of combined oral contraceptive pills because of its effect on the gut flora. Erythromycin is an inhibitor of the cytochrome P450 system, which means that it can have a rapid effect on levels of other drugs metabolised by this system, e.g., warfarin.

I don't know if I should blame the drug, because my brother was ill the other day being sick, and i could of easily got from him... but no one else hasn't. And seeing all the reviews about the drug... I honestly feel scared to take it, but yet if it was that dangerious, my doctor wouldn't of subscribed it me.

any thoughts.. help? and yes, i can be quite paranoid before you say anythin.. but all i've seen is negative stuff about it.

I used eyrthromycin when i was younger and for the mostpart it worked with very little side effects.

I think i was on it for a year and combined with the cream it really worked , however it isn't a total cure for acne like roacutane can be.

It's an antibiotic and so if you go on it for a very long time a near definate side effect is that your teeth will lose their whiteness a bit.

Once i went off it though my teeth went back to normal fairly quick. So i had no side effects apart from that.

Hope this helps.

I have medication for my acne, I'm not sure what it is called, I'm sure it is the same things, But when I take the tablets it causes me to burp up lots of mingy dusty stuff, it tastes horrible, and it makes my eyes go all fuzzy.

You do realise like... 90% of medicines contain warnings with things like bad side effects and may cause death etc etc? LOL

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Doctors know what they're doing so it's unlikely for them to give you something that can be harmful.

The internet is a negative place, of course it's going to be full of worst case scenarios, negative unreliable stuff. Personally I found the drug nothing short of useless, I didn't get any side-effects but it doesn't work for acne either.

Obviously if it's making you ill, STOP TAKING IT. Try it again when you feel better, if it continues, STOP TAKING IT and I say it once again...
Go to your GP.

It infuriates me the lack of common sense used in this forum, why don't people just ask their parents or go to their GP?!

I had the same problem with this antibiotic for when I had a chest infection, just go to your doctor and ask for an alternative.
