Okay, I was wondering if you really watch the expiry date on food, if it was one day overdue I'm one of those people who will take a bite and taste it and see if it is edible. Is this really bad or good?

And do you do the same?

yeh i taste/smell/look at it and see if its ok. Most stuff's expiry date is like way before its actual date just so the companies who produce it cant get their ass's sued if someone does get food poisoning

depends what it is.
before i ate a packet of crisps that was like a month out of date, didn't realise before I ate them, and I was fine :)
I smell it and taste it a little before I eat something I know is out of date.

Who were the crisps made by? I can always tell when Walkers' crisps are out of date because they taste like wet paper - most of time that's about a few weeks before the expiry date too :/

I sniff anything even when in date, ever since I smelt mouldy apples coming from a packet of sweetcure bacon :P

Bit silly considering it's partly a marketing technique to urge you to just buy more.. :P

But yeah, dairy products I smell before I use them anyway (regardless of the expiry date) and all the rest.. well.. I never check the date tbh cos I don't eat many odd snacks like that :P

If it looks ok, like bread etc then I'll use it after the exp. day but generally if its like 3 days out of date I wont eat it :L

I eat stuff which is a couple of days out, it really depends on what the product is and as said before it is a good way of getting you to buy more. :P

This.
Normally I don't even look at dates anywho, if it looks/tastes bad, i won't eat it normally, whether before or after the date.

I'll eat it if it looks and tastes alright, regardless of the date. (unless it's quickly perishable, like meat, milk etc.) It's not that I'm tight, I'm just not wasteful.

I eat stuff the day before it goes out of date. Gives me an excuse to be a pig even though I'd eat it if it was out of date

I throw it in the bin or I get my mum to taste it because i'm scared if i taste it i won't be able to taste the difference and i'll get food poisoning or some **** :l

The only thing which I follow the expiry date on is milk and eggs, thats it. A lot of things have so much preservatives anyway it'll last long after :L

I never eat anything that's out of date, even if it's only a day. Unless of course it's meat that has been frozen or something. Although I do eat bread that has passed its expiry date as long as there is no mold on it.

Sounds like a pretty wasteful lot, the only person I can forgive is the person who works in the kitchen as I had to do that as its regulations.

I will eat things over a week past their expiry date.

Things like bread and cheese I will just cut the mould out, eggs I keep in my fridge so I know they will last longer than on the box, milk I sniff first before I use. Canned goods don't really go off within reason.

canned stuff lasts forever! didn't they find a can from like 20 years ago which was still fine?

Yeah I'm really bad for this haha, although some things you can eat even if they're a day or two out of date!

You've not seen what happens to canned hot dogs that have been buried in the back of a cupboard and out of date by a few years :P Loudest, messiest bang I've ever heard :P

"Some things". 24 doesn't make a difference.

I do aswell, tbh not much is out of date until a week or so after its date (maybe milk, bread, or whatever goes off quicker but slightly stale bread can make nice toast), its just a way to make money by making people throw perfectly good food away and buying more!

My Little 8 year old brother was having breakfast earlier and wasn't sure on the Milk Date... It was FEB 18th, but i said it was 12th April So my brother sat at the table, got his spoon and with the first swallow of milk he nearly threw up, I was like: APRIL FOOLS!

Nice to know you keep milk a month-and-a-half past its use-by date in your fridge.

HAHAHA that is SOO funny.

Perhaps your house should have people round to check you are being looked after properly.

Cannot believe how wasteful some people are on here :S One day out of date? GET over it. I had some scotch pancakes yesterday that were 6 days out of date - they tasted fine, and guess what? I am still alive.

Not so long ago, you didn't get sell by dates - and people didn't panic.

I don't tend to eat anything that's out of date, even crisps, because they tend to go somewhat soft after a bit. I know they'll be perfectly fine to eat, but I just don't. :P

depends
if it's "use by" then i'll only eat / drink it a few days after the expiry date
if it's "best before" i say it's good for a few more years lol

17 years? whattttt hahahah

i just do the sniff test tbf and look and make sure there aint no mold or anything. unless it's milk then i don't av it past it's date because i can't smell whether it's off or not as milk smells horrible to me anyway

I don't sniff my food or anything. It never usually happens to me but when I do notice that something's past the due date I just chuck it simply because it doesn't happen to often.

Andy-

I don't sniff my food either I am 13 so like my parents would probally notice if the food in my house is overdate. But i would normally eat things that are overdate by a few days. I once made pancakes with milk that was 1 day overdate but it tasted normal I did the sniff test aswell.

Agreed, i think there is a limit though to how long it is out of date before you bin it straight away :P
