Sonic returns in 2011 with Sonic Generations.

A new sonic game was announced today and is called "Sonic Generations". From the trailer below, it certainly looks like it's going to be an interesting game.

Seen the trailer on eurogamer just before coming here to see if it was posted and i was beat lol. Anyway I can't wait for this game, and im glad to see the old sonic look back but in a trailer. Also judging from the trailer we can assume itll be out by the end of the year due to the snowy styled green hill zone

Not sure how any of you can say it "looks good" when there is nothing in that trailer to imply that :P I heard it was going to be a modern take on one of the old Sonic games. Old Sonic in 3D looks crap to be honest :P He only ever looked good in 2D.

Hopefully it will be a decent game. Sonic Colours was frustrating as the gameplay was so slow in my opinion. Sonic never used to jump slowly and with no control. In Sonic Colours you had to take ages planning each jump because he tooks flaming ages getting off the ground. The running was fine, but the jumping and lack of control was infuriating :P

Shall be buying. Don't think its meant to be a snowy Green Hill Zone. And because of the movies shown in the teaser im 100% it will use the Hedgehog Engine which shall be fun playing older levels on.

Will be a while before we hear any info knowing sega.

Earlier this months Sega had leaked a trailer for an upcoming Sonic game which featured modern sonic rushing through an area that looked like Green Hill Zone then meeting his 1991 counterpart sometime near the end of the trailer. For those that havent seen it here it is:

Now today I have been looking through a website and stumbled across gameplay screenshots and news on the game via this site by clicking here (http://http://www.joystiq.com/screenshots/sonic-generations/4061069/#/0)

The plot behind Sonic Generations has not been fully mentioned however it states that and I quote:
"Sonic’s universe is thrown into chaos when a mysterious new power creates ‘time holes’ which pull him and his friends back through time. As a result, he encounters some surprises from his past history including Classic Sonic, Sonic as he was in 1991.”

Now some of you are thinking, Can you play as 1991 Sonic? Well the answer is YES!!! You will be able to play as Classic Sonic or Modern time sonic, each having their own special moves. Classic sonic having Spin dash and spin attack while Modern sonic has Homing attack and Sonic Boost (I assume the boost is similar to Sonic Unleashed's boost). Best still, the game can be played in either 2D or 3D. Heres the link of screenshots

I think that was Sonic 3D? Im not sure though, I remember you collected something and then some stuff would follow you around.

Sonic is back with a flash (if sega ever make money with this you are witnesses that they owe me) hope the game does well but I think that Mario and Luigi were always better.

I should like to add aswell that 1991 sonic's gameplay is more based on 2D platforming and that Modern Sonic focuses more on the speed like style of Sonic Colors and Sonic Unleashed.

Thats a good point as I used to have Sonic on GameBoy Advance (looool) and it was a ppor quality 2D Colour game and it wasn't really much of a sotry btu going as fast as you can and collecting rings.

I don't care if the classic Sonic games were repetative and didn't have a story. You knew what was happening and what you had to do from the start. Thats what made them games so great for me.

Sorry for the double post but its WAY past the edit time, its adding more info including FULL LEVEL GAMEPLAY of the 2D level seen in the previous trailer. The music in the background which plays with the level is none other than the theme from green hill zone from sonic 1! How sweet is that!!

Upon watching the video some more, the ending of the 2D levels end like the old games where sonic runs past a sign which flips to sonics image. Later in the video it shows the Modern sonic gameplay aswell.

^ That all looks good :P I had to stop myself from scratching at the monitor. Hopefully Sonic can jump properly in this game, in Sonic Colors he seemed a bit too "weighted", so he didn't jump high and when he did he flew straight back down rather than fell to the ground smoothly like in previous Sonic games (including Classic 2D Sonic Games). That said, it does look good :P

Will preorder as soon as i can. Sonic game with trophys ^^. ive liked all the sonic games some are better than others i play them for what they are. So thats Generations, Sonic 4 episode 2, Mario and sonic 2012 and sonic 3ds. all good.

Well from what I have gathered the game will cross 3 important parts of sonic games, the Classic (Sonic 1 - 3), Dreamcast (Sonic Adventure, DX, 2 etc) and Modern (Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colours)
