I'm going to be doing this with my sandy bridge motherboard which is affected by the defect that was found by intel in January.

Has anybody else here done the recall with an Asus board? If you opted for a return how much money did you get for it (and which board was it) and how did they send you the money? If you opted for a replacement do they pay a courier to pick up your board or do you have to pay? Do they ship the new one for free too?

Any answers here would be much appreciated

Are you going directly to Asus or the re-seller where you bought it?

If you return it, you will get the full amount of what you paid for it (if you have the invoice to prove it, of course).

I was going to go through Asus. I bought it from overclockers when the price was about £15 lower than it is now, so i'm hoping Asus might give more. If Asus quote less than I paid i'll ask overclockers how they would handle a return.

I'm pretty sure they would refund you the amount stated on your invoice.

Asus won't refund you the money. The only reason you should go through Asus is to get your B2 straight swapped for a B3. If you want a full refund, you'll have to go through the retailer.

I feel sorry for you for going with overclockers though :P. Their RMA department is a nightmare apparently.

Thing is, on overclocker's support info they say they don't support Asus's returns service.

Ignore that and set up the RMA anyway. It is overclockers.co.uk's duty to honor the recall.

Whether they have the new revision of your board in stock is a different matter.

Just curious though, are you actually affected by the defect?

ok will do that. I would normally go straight to asus but instead I want another version of the mobo, for the information of others with the asus boards use this link for a direct replacement without needing to phone them through their pay number: http://asus.co.uk/sandybridge_swap/

Seems like i'll need a new cpu cooler too seeing as I kind of broke the bracket when installing the last one :/ Ah well, can buy a better one this time!

Thanks for the link, I may send mine off soon depending on whether they offer the advanced RMA service like in the US.

Basically, you hand over your credit card details to them, they ship the brand new board out to you, but don't charge you unless you don't send the old board to them within 2 weeks. That way the only downtime you rig will have is the time it takes for you to install the new board. Shipping should be free both ways, too.

I can already see why overclocker's RMA service is a nightmare... it asks me to provide an RMA number, shouldn't they be the ones providing me with one?

Yeah just leave it blank and continue to fill in the rest of the stuff and send it. They should get back to you with an RMA number.

kk, just sent them a simple message saying i'd like to return it and change it for a different board, not complicated I hope and maybe they will see they will earn money because i'm upgrading :)

Now I just need to find a big external hard drive to backup my data incase my RAID10 messes up during the switch.

Yup overclockers are sending out a pre-written response for this I think. Even though I explained why I want to return my motherboard to buy another one this is the reply I got:

The Sandybridge swap out will be starting soon. Please visit the following link and fill out the form. From there it will be swapped out with the new revision of the board.

Update on my situation with overclockers:

They've replied saying they won't let me return it because it has been over 28 days since purchase even though they know the replacement boards weren't available until now. I contacted them earlier when the problem was first made public by intel and overclockers told me to wait. This is just silly now :/

Summary:
(February) Overclockers: Please wait until there is more information available
(April) Overclockers: Sorry we can't help you because you waited until there was more information available.

Total **.

@ Above oh come on hxf! you seriously filtering an abbreviation now? jheez.

More information: http://service.asus.com/notice/FAQ.aspx

Replacement is done by ASUS, if you wish to get a refund then go through overclockers.

Your consumer rights are to either get a refund or a replacement. This does not matter if the purchese was made over 28 days ago. Dont let them fob you off...

Sent the request last Friday and haven't had a reply yet.

I was able to return mine straight to Aria (The actual store) for a straight up swap, Im suprised Overclockers dont do that.
