Nintendo's next console will debut at E3 in June, moving the maker of Mario and Zelda into the HD era. The news, first reported by Game Informer today, confirms rumors that have been swirling for months in the wake of slowing game releases from Nintendo.

Furthermore, we've heard that the machine will be more powerful than current-gen systems, meaning Nintendo, currently backing a Wii that is weaker in horsepower than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, will be showing a new console that is more powerful than those current competitors.

Oh my.

Anyway I don't care it if is, nintendos games are lackluster in entertainment imo, theyre just dull & theyll be in the next generation so who knows what M$ and SON¥ have up their sleeves for next gen.

I'll probably buy the system though if it has good graphics + the support.

I use my Wii more than I do my 360. Mario Galaxy 2, Cave Story, World of Goo etc. damn lot of 'entertainment'.

I don't care about the graphics, I care whether or not FRIENDS CODES and whether they'll support it with software. A massively powerful machine can't appeal to the casual as such unless it has motion control/ easy software/ good price point.

I think Nintendo are holding the hand of the casual into the 'core' gaming set, with the 3DS not launching with 'Wii Sports' titles. Good too.

I far prefer using a controller to game, so the Wii wasn't exactly exciting for me.

When I play a game, I do not want to wave my arms about frantically - that really does not interest me. Hopefully they will surprise us though.

For me personally its lacking, I never said for everyone. Quite clearly people like to play mario over and over. Lol jk thats a troll comment, but most nintendo games dont appeal to me and lack in entertainment for me because their games bore me. Except super smash bros.

Exactly this, plus also Mario Kart is pretty cool. I much prefer relaxing on my sofa with a controller

I have a Wii & PS3. The Wii was fun for stuff like Guitar Hero & mario Karts - nothing else. The graphics on the Wii are nothing compared to PS3 and I hate the controller - it's so annoying. I hope Nintendo go back to their ways of N64 etc. because that was truly the God of all consoles.

I'll get this new console if: It has good graphics, the controller is the usual handheld, not Wii-style, it doesn't have stupid kiddie "Mii's" etc. That just irritated the **** out of me after about 2 hours on Wii Sports.

Well, no. I want my game to look nice. You could argue minecraft, but minecraft looks quite nice with the whole retro feel to it. Besides, I want to see every thread of Mario's mustache.

70m+ sales and the best selling games this gen (despite 1 or 2 being bundled very heavily i.e. wii sports) isn't exactly what I call fading out, but their software is in terms of 3rd parties.

I'm guessing you've never played with a Wii before? I'm guessing you've never played with a Wii before? The Miis are just there to have as a picture, an "avatar" for your account like you have with your PS3 and Xbox 360 (or the PS3 at least, not sure what the Xbox has for user images). Miis aren't essential, they're just useful for using as a placeholder for a profile picture. Most games do not require them.

I don't use most of the channels on the PS3. I don't complain about them :S Heck, at least with the Wii you can hide the Mii Channel from the main window, unlike the PS3. How are they annoying and pointless? They're non-essential for most games, they only appear in Wii Games e.g. Wii Sports, Wii Fit and the rare appearance in games like Animal Crossing.

Well in god of war 1 and 2 but I'm saying that the better effects and graphics help improve the gameplay and fun but doesnt make the fun. Like I would quite like a proper HD option for minecraft as it would be much nicer on the eye but I wouldnt buy it just to wander around and watch the fancy graphics spawn blocks. It's like looking for a relationship. Their looks will interest you for a little bit and bring the initial interest (graphics) but their personality (gameplay) will keep you interested in the long run. Metaphor over.

Actually, for what it is, the DS has very substantial graphics. Compare them with last generations and you'll see the differences, but of course you're comparing the graphics on the DS to that of the PS3, aren't you? :rolleyes:

They're an alternative to pre-made characters in the Wii Sports and Party titles. Nintendo are giving you freedom which would have otherwise been lacking in rather generic games. Plus it's a kind of 'profile' for when you play online. I seriously don't see what your problem is.

Graphics don't make the game no, but I would much rather play in HD then stick to the terrible graphics that the Wii has. I'd play my PS2 if I wanted those sort of graphics, and the PS2 has better games.
If Nintendo were to make a proper console, proper controller, and then re-re-release Goldeneye, I would probably get the console just for that

They get real controls and i might actually start playing the nintendo more, games with chracters like spyro, crash bandicoot, rayman, mario and all that goodness was hours of endless fun and could compete with the 360 and ps3 piss easy if they boosted the graphics a tad.

Seeing as though this will be Nintendo's 8th gen console, it has to be better than the 360 and PS3. Nintendo have to release something that the current consoles don't have, one of the major problems I think for games is that they're all upscaled 720p quality, hopefully they'll bring out games that are 1080p and some FUN launch titles, the 3DS has the worst launch I've ever seen in games. I bought 5 games for my 3DS when it came out and the only one that gets played is Street Fighter 4 which is by Capcom.

Nintendo has been disappointing me a lot these past 3 years. Releasing Pokemon for the DS just before the 3DS is going to come out, handing over the Ocarina of Time remake to some unknown developers, Super Mario Galaxy 2, nuff said.

I think they will need to step up their game on graphics, its a really big thing nowadays, and the wii's were pretty bad. Although saying that, games that used a more 'cartoony' style were pretty good, I really liked Super Mario Galaxy's art style, and if I remember correctly, Red Steel wasn't too bad either.
Also, with the whole social aspect of gaming nowadays, they really should implement something like xbox live, that works across the next console and the DS, perhaps even adding achievement-like things, that could tie in with their 'nintendo club' giving you rewards on their site for doing well in games. Just an idea.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do something for the console and 3D tvs as they are becoming popular now.

Nintendo have always been ahead in sales and (at least in most peoples opinion) gameplay.

They however have always been slightly behind in graphics. But i've always found that since they tend to concentrate on gameplay, i didn't mind that they left the graphics out a bit. This could be the first time they are ahead in both graphics and gameplay!

I worry though that if they go ahead in graphics will they leave out the game quality a bit?

It's been a while since the last post in this thread and there's been some new info on this recently.

Firstly the original Wii has dropped to down in price recently to become the cheapest game console on the market.

Very interesting and possibly next gen stuff here i think. It can make for a very powerfull handheld unit that (probably i'm guessing) can also be viewed on tv screens.

I really hope it's a handheld controller I hate the wii remote atm. I have xbox 360 and I've started playing with my wii again recently. It needs to be something better than what xbox and ps3 offer right now though.

I know how you feel, and luckily Nintendo seem to be heading in that direction with this new console.

Playing with the Wii remote always felt unnatural to me. I never totaly got used to it :(
