X Factor winner Joe McElderry has been dropped by Simon Cowell’s record company SyCo, according to reports, after his solo efforts failed to impress.

SEE THE LATEST X FACTOR TOUR PICS HERE!

The Tyneside singer was crowned the winner of the famous singing competition after being mentored by pop princess Cheryl Cole during the 2009 show.

But it seems his solo singles have failed to ignite interest, leading to poor sales and limited chart success.

Joe’s debut single, a cover of Miley Cyrus hit The Climb failed to reach the sought after Christmas number one spot, after an X Factor backlash saw music fans propel rockers Rage Against the Machine to the top instead.

His second single reached a sorry number six in the charts, while reports suggest his third could have sold as little as 7,000 copies.

It’s thought bosses made every effort boost the cheeky singer’s flailing career, but to no avail.

'Simon gave Joe the best chance possible of success by making sure he worked with some of the world's top producers,’ once insider told the Daily Mail.

'Joe's a lovely boy and it is a pity it did not work out, but no one can say Simon and his staff did not try to make it work.'

It’s thought the 'devastated' singer has moved home to Newcastle, after being told his initial record contract, which ends next month, won’t be renewed.

‘Joe is devastated,’ a friend of the 19-year-old singer revealed. ‘His mum has been comforting him.

'He believed he could have a great music career.

'Although he is still on Syco's books, his deal runs out in about a month and it won't be renewed.'

poor kid.

He was given the opportunity and unfortunately it looks like he just wasn't good enough to be amongst the industry's best. He wasn't to bad but I just don't think he managed to get himself out there enough and release any brilliant records.

Good luck to him though :)

I'm sure there will be other labels out there ready to sign him up - there always is.

He's the grannie's favourite.
Your nan would go 'awww Joe - let's vote for him'.

Unfortunately he's just got no personality, and he's more of a haven type performer.

I'm not a fan of him or the X Factor really but I think the wait for the album did have a massive effect. His album finally came out and everyone had actually forgot who he was.

Well, he hasn't been doing much except for sitting in cash.

Aw, I liked his song Ambitions but I personally feel he waited too long to release a single. Olly Murs is/was doing better than Joe.

Yeah I agree about Olly, I think the failure started when he was pipped to post for christmas number one.

Not surprised. He would be better in Musical theatre I believe. He has a great voice for that. Might be the best thing that has happened to him. Shane Ward has been dropped too although I am surprised he wasn't dropped ages ago.

I liked Joe. I always thought Oli would and always would be a failure, he's got the most annoying face ever.

not fussed though.

Tbh he left his album to long, coming out as gay didn't help, and his song was to predictable and it was such an annoying little jingly one

I'm not suprised his music was never appealing and I never thought he should have won X Factor in the first place.

Sorry but what does his sexuality have to do with anything?

So his gay? Elton John is gay and look how popular he is

This is my problem currently with music, everything but the music seems to come first. He could be a transvestite for all I care, if I liked his music I'd like his music.

I'm not a fan of him I just wish people would enjoy music for what it should be

Doesn't surprise me one but. Olly Murs is so much better and he is doing so much better in that industry than Joe Mcelderry ever would!
