This might be a crap idea, or not even work but you know.
Would it be possible (and not in breach of Sulakes rules) to offer new members one week of free 'donator'. Once their week is up an automatic PM could be sent asking them if they enjoyed having the coloured username, then if they wish to continue being recognised across the forum, they can donate £1.50 towards Habbox to keep it running.
Again, might be a crap idea. But may also increase the amount of people who donate to Habbox.

I don't think it would breach sulakes rules because everyone who signs up will get it for free so its like included with the signing up process and the option to carry on having a coloured name would be optional so habbox wouldn't be forcing anyone into having one.
I think the idea could work out but i don't know whether it'd attract more users though maybe if it could be given to some current users that haven't donated before as well?
If anything I think a day would be fine rather than a week.

It wouldn't get more members to sign up, but it may encourage more new members to buy donor :)

Fair enough - I just said a week, since as a newer member you tend not to post that much in the first day or so :P
Not to rain on your parade, but I believe that if people are willing to donate and spend money on a coloured username and other various features you get with being a Donator, then they will donate regardless. If they have no intention to waste money on a username then they can't really be encouraged to. Plus most of the people on Habbo now-a-days are kids, so they tend to have to get their parents permission before buying Habbo credits and whatnot. I highly doubt a parent is going buy their kid VIP on a forum to get a different coloured username.
But hey, I could be wrong! The only down side to this is that for a while.. everyone will have Donator status, which will downgrade it. Having a coloured username makes you stand out in the forum, so if everyone has donator.. It wouldn't do much of that.
Edit: I also agree with myke, a day would be suffice :)

People actually get the bill payers permission? :P
The thing is though, do new members even understand about Donor and where to get it.
If my idea wouldn't work, how about a separate PM to the welcoming one was sent to them when they signed up, saying about Donor etc?

Yeah I don't want to coerce people into donating, I know it's not exactly coercion but it is kinda a sneaky thing that a business would do - we don't wanna do that, we make quite a bit from donator (even more now we release Ltd Edition) and I'd rather do that than give trials and then take them away, there's nothing more annoying than things like that.
It has been suggested recently that we should inform new members in their "Welcome PMs" that if they post 100 times in their first month they can win 2 weeks VIP or similar, which I think is a good idea.

Now THAT idea puts mine to shame :P That is a really good idea, in my opinion - would be questioning why that has not been implemented in a few months time :P
And Oli, business is sneaky ;) :P

Certainly a really good idea. Has anything been planned further? Such as how many people have the chance to win those two weeks or?

I've been meaning to look into it and have a chat with the relevant people about it but I'm quite busy at the moment with revision, but it is on my list :)

Revision obviously comes before anything on this website. You will have to be infracted if you do things for Habbox before your future, Oliver :P
