You're slightly wrong with this statement too as digital signals are modulated to analogue signals (a type of DAC) to travel along the coaxial cable and then modulated back to digital (a type of ADC) at the modem/box.

It is very rare that we send unmodulated digital signals down cables.

Actually i'd recommend Virgin Media if you're going to be pirating stuff. They were one of the ISPs that had a deal with that ACS law firm for them not to harass their customers over illegal downloads.

I know that when I was experimenting with Linux, and used uTorrent for downloading distros quickly and effectively, that VM slow torrents down to about 25% of your speed at peak times. So do it all between 9pm and 9am and your OK.

I can confirm VM now throttle my usenet connection, even in the early hours of the morning.

HTTP downloads (Rapidshare e.c.t.) download at full 30Mb/s, however usenet maxes out at around 15-18Mb/s for most of the day.

The default for Astraweb is port 563, which is what I'm using now.
