View Full Version : Forum Song Contest

I've been thinking that with the Eurovision Song Contest coming up, it might be a good idea to have some sort of event/competition revolving around it. I was thinking of a Forum Song Contest, where groups of possibly 3 could be formed, they would then 'be' a country and find a song from that country to enter into the contest. Like Eurovision, semi-finals could be held, where forum users can vote "Eurovision style" for their favourite entries, and then the top point scorers would go into the final, where they would then be again voted for, ending up with the overall results. The top 3 countries/teams could receive prizes, i.e. VIP, a hxf award, habbo furni. Songs in the final and semi-finals could also be played on HabboxLive, which might influence listeners to join up to the forum and cast their votes for their favourite songs!
Anyway, it was just a quick idea. Very tired atm so excuse any mistakes or if I've left anything out. :P

I think its a good idea and i agree that it could get people to sign up to the forum when its time for them to cast their vote. I also think that HabboxLive would benefit from doing a eurovision show i know some other fansites do it and they always seem to get a high amount of listeners plus its something different to what you'd normally hear i know i'd tune in for it. :)

I don't really understand what the competition would be? It just seems like naming any old artist artist and a song and it just seems too little effort for a "big event". Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick, of course.
Just have a singing competition like we did last year................
What about if departments done it, and people got to vote who was created the best song.
Love the idea BTW :D

It would be fun for the staff, but what would it provide for the user who are not staff? They could only listen and not participate which wouldn't be much fun imo

Surely that's why we have "Habbox Starz"? xD

I'm pretty sure Nicola has a large-scale event on the cards for next month already, but I do think HabboxLive should perhaps do something in relation to Eurovision.
Surely that's why we have "Habbox Starz"? xD
Aha! That's what it was, thanks! Yeah why don't we just do that and call it Habbox Eurovision or whatever?

Maybe solo artists should be allowed to if this went ahead as just in groups of 3 isn't really good if someones joined the forum to participate to find that you need a group.
Inseriousity.

Yeah this would really be my only problem with it. Some people will find it easier to create a group than others. But just allowing the option of solo performances means that it's highly likely that everyone would which would just mean a Habbox Starz with a different name :P

Can I be Norway's entrant?
The difference between Starz and this is that this a more country specific thing and stuff. The Habbox Starz format nowadays becomes more dreary and boring and it's repeated in the same monotony year in and year out. Gemma has actually come up with something more original that will freshen it up. No offence to the people who did last years (or the year before), but it ended up drawing LESS listeners rather than more. When other sites do karaokes every 3 months or so it boosts listener stats by double, but this format or the people or way it's presented in the current Starz format does HxL no good deeds. It may be because it's spanned out for way too long, you cannot mimic Idol here or maybe because it's just boring and needs re-vamping and better planning.

do you EVER have anything positive to say about HabboxLive? nope, didn't think so.
it's quite a good idea Gemma but then I thought thats what Habbox starz is for, so maybe the forum could work in partnership with HXL to get the event more well known, and perhaps running a mini version (or the full version) for eurovision would be a good idea.

It's not negative at all it's a constructive criticism, now if you live in a world where candy grows on trees, then go ahead and continue. I appreciate HxL and will be the first to praise it as I have done numerous times :). You know little about the department so unmerited criticism here is foolish.
But I stick to my points above of Habbox Starz becoming outdated, the last 2 years were quite lack-luster in terms of stats.

I already have a large event planned for May and I do feel that the Eurovision would be better suited to HabboxLive, it's not really a large event that would suit the forum. It's an interesting idea though Gemma :)

I like the eurovision idea in theory but think that it would be too much like hx starz and am currently trying to come up with something that HabboxLive could do for eurovision that is a bit different so any other ideas would be good.

How do you know how much Myke knows about the HabboxLive department? You seem to think you know everything when in actual fact you don't. What were the stats for the last 2 years of Habbox Starz? Having a little look back you were not even here last year when Habbox starz took place (unless you lied about being away) so it makes me think you are making statements about the success of it for the sake of it and not based on facts.
Other sites do karaoke competitions regularly but often I see them posting 'applications extended because no one entered' and really having to push it and have applications open for weeks on end. Having it as a once a year thing I think makes it more special and more likely to have a better turn out. It has always gained listeners and had a good turn out from listeners and people have enjoyed it and really got involved and that is a great thing from any competition. This year there will be changes, not too major but to make it different. Last year I think applications were open for 1 week and everything was done and dusted within 2 weeks so your comment about dragging it out is invalid unless you think we should do it all in one day.

nah, every comment you make in regards to HabboxLive "Well back in 2007" "well back when Adzeh was manager" (which is really starting to piss me off). If you live in a world where candy grows on trees then go ahead and continue but the reality is everything has changed since then, what people used to like then they don't now. As far as I am aware if I remember correctly HabboxLive Starz did still get a lot of really good entries last year (http://habboxlive.com/pages/starz.html).

Maybe you could just do a whole day or something of just eurovision if djs choose a show or two of just one countrys music then when its actually time for eurovision do like a big event or something where you do like a countdown whilst eurovision is actually on so people will want to stay online because i know some people go offline to watch eurovision so you could do a countdown or something or instead of doing a actual countdown maybe just put a countdown of past winners of eurovision and maybe put a poll on the forum where people can vote for which winners of eurovision were the best i don't think people would just vote for england as seriously not to be rude but we have had some tragic performances for england in the past :P.
Oh and just to add i don't think its fair to say that habbox starz is outdated for a while people look foward to habbox starz and it still gets a good amount of listeners i've said this before but is there much point of living in the past :S sure habboxlive got more listeners back in the day but honestly habbox starz still gets at least 100+ listeners which is great.

He's never been in the department? Well obviously he would now quite a bit now from you being on skype with him on a regular basis. I don't remember when I was away and to be frank can't really care at all, but when I was tuned in the listeners were lower on the show days then say for other shows. I fully support Gemma's idea here not because I'm going to slate your idea of Starz, which was fantastic in the first two years running- but I just think it's time for a re-vamp that's all :p. As for the enjoyment factor, I'll give it to you that people have indeed enjoyed it highly :), but it's much more of a complex interplay of factors than that.
Good luck though!

When is this habbox starz thing? I would be interested .
I think that if you do this idea again it would be a success as there are people who joined since the last habbox starz and would want to give it a go.

ok you've obviously not done your research, i've been a radio dj and if you hadn't noticed i'm graphics manager and uhmmm, she's radio manager so obviously we'd know what's going on in each others departments because of a managers meetings (http://www.google.co.uk/search?sclient=psy&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&source=hp&q=define%3A+meeting&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&pbx=1). oh actually, have i ever been manager? you seem to know my history better than i do myself!!
talking down on people, when you don't know a thing is what i would call "foolish" (in your own terms)?? :S
now, now that's been corrected, I like the idea Gemma, but as I said I think that it could be put to good to use if there was a synergy of HabboxLive and HabboxForum (for the publicity side) to make a great competition.
I never attacked you or radio management personally, you seem to have taken it upon yourself to strut in here like high and mighty and simply be rude to a comment, which is an OPINION. I am not going to cite my sources for a Habbo fansite nor will I ever bother. You seem to exemplify what a perfect manager should be, rude and arrogant- congratulations we'll be seeing you in General Management sometime soon.
As for Gemma's idea, which may I point out some people fail to see , it is something that will freshen up the department, because that's what it needs a face-lift. Continuity isn't always good, and the reason I always compare stuff to 2007 is because things were more successful back then and if you open your eyes and see how many quality and well planned shows there were then and now you will see a difference. I for one would not be rushing hands up to my computer to listen to any one of these shows atm.
Anyway, I won't bother replying to anymore attacks. As for your points on management meetings, they don't give you that much of an insight into the department, I've been there, done that.

Sounds interesting and i'm in favour of it. It all depends on how it's run/organised though.
The eurovision is the most watched show in the world i believe. So we must do something relatively big for it :)
