as with ever genre there's a ton of sub-genres, but straight up hardcore is more like punk rock, just faster and heavier.

Depends what you mean by alternative.
I listen to a massive variety like AFI, The Cure, Dream Theatre, Tom waits, Children of Bodom

Could you link me to a well known 'straight up' hardcore band?
I know I could search, but I wouldn't know if I am listening to good or bad hardcore :P

I like quite a few hardcore bands, The Devil Wears Prada, Underoath, Asking Alexandria, Attack Attack, the list goes on.
The last two are more "trance metal" than hardcore but I like them all the same none the less. One hardcore song that I really dig that I can't figure out the name to is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5iNOWnKkw0
If anyone has that iphone app or whatever it is that recognizes every song, use it on that video please! =D

FYI none of those bands are hardcore, they're all metalcore. there's a huge difference between metalcore and hardcore

Ah, gotta me honest not really my type of thing - it is a sort of 'almost' screamo style there - like it isn't screaming as such, but it is on its way to go there :P

I listen to all sorts too such as grime/dnb/punk etc but I prefer hardcore/deathcore as 90% of the time the music is what the bands want to play not what they think people will like. In the words of Pay no respect "This is who I am, This I what I live for" :D

Yeah, he is a great vocalist but I am really giving up hope that they'll stay together based on their track records.
how do people not grow out of this stuff, it's insanely boring. i used to like these bands when i was 13.

yeah that's a very good point, i think they'll be alright this time, the good thing about the Australian hardcore/metalcore scene is that all the big bands know each other really well, and this time the vocalist is coming from a band that Jona manages and stuff, so i reckon there won't be any problems

Because everyone has different tastes. You may like a kind of music that everyone else commenting grew out of? If you actualy listened to the bands we're talking about you'd realise you "grew out" of a completely different genre of music. Hardcore/Deathcore music the lyrics acutally mean something not like Pop-Punk/Rock/Hip-Hop/Grime which is just what the audience wants to hear rather than what the band wants to play. So shortly you grew out of MCR, BFMV, All Time Low and McFly Etc.etc.etc.etc.etc

I've been on stage with Annotations of an Autopsy :). Although, my favourite band in the metal category is The Black Dahlia Murder - who are insanely good live!

Three days Grace
Alter Bridge
Pendulum

Comeback Kid
Trashtalk
Asking Alexandria
Parkway Drive
Hatebreed
Yashin
Devil Wears Prada
We the Brave
Escape the Fate
We Came As Romans
Bring me the Horizon
Cancer Bats
A Day to Remember
Lower than Atlantis - but I've only just got into them really.
-Can think of a few more, but not sure how heavy you'd like them.
