I've recently taught myself how to write in binary, being a geek, I LOVE it! Does anybody else enjoy the simplistic nature binary offers?

No, I prefer to speak in base36 so people can understand me.

Hmm, people can understand me if they know how to read it. But that's not the point anyway. I just think it's a beautiful foundation of technology, it's been around for so long and all.

Btw, is base36 like hex?

Hex would be base-16, consisting of 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F

Base-36 would be 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,<then the entire alphabet>

Binary was fun to learn about at college, you never forget it either as it's so easy to understand. Good also as computers only understand (as far as I know) 0V or +5V which can be represented by a 1 or a 0. :D

You should try learning hexidecimal and octal :)

Something you may like, is counting in binary on ur fingers, i done this when learning binary ages ago and found it pretty cool, theres probs some vids on youtube or something..

Yep. Seen as 'oct' came from the latin word 'octo' meaning 8 :)

If I may suggest. If you like things like this why not try your hands at a bit of programming. Simple languages can be fun to learn, and in time you'll be able to create applications, games and websites.

Even simple visual basic applications can be fun. I'm being forced to revise .NET at the moment, it's boring as hell. Especially when the lecturer was swopping between C# and VB all year.

Is octal base-8?You can figure out what base something is by how many different digits it has. Binary is base 2 because theres only 2 digits, 0 and 1. Number system is base 10 as theres 10 different digits. 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9.

visual basic, the easiest thing known to man. Is it weird that i actually like it? Albeit its possible because its my first programming language but still, i find it very fun. Though, very, very easy.
