Obviously I only come on here to spread pro-Eurovision and pro-UK propaganda (but not last year because "That Sounds Good to Me" was horsepoo and there's no way some people would believe there were no political motives behind our last place), so here I am with a thread similar to this one in 2009 (http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=578551) where only one person correctly predicted Dame Jade of Ewen would be in the Top 5. There are also a few angry posts from myself and Sammeth. in there. Such fun.

SO, where do you think Blue will come next Saturday in Düsseldorf?

I'm gunna say top 5. Just because Blue did have a fairly decent fan base in Europe (especially Italy) and this song isn't trashy cheesy-pop that we've entered for the last 10 years.

I put 21 - 25 as thats where we tend to be... If we finish any higher then weve done very well!

From wikipedia

"Ireland holds the record for the most number of wins, having won the Contest seven times—including three times in a row in 1992, 1993 and 1994. France, Luxembourg and United Kingdom are joint second with five wins." Apparently, we're not that bad. Up until about 2000.

It could be argued United Kingdom is one of the most successful countries in Eurovision.

In 53 appearances we have:

43% of all appearances we have finished Top 3 (23 times)
54% of all appearances we have finished Top 5 (29 times)
77% of all appearances we have finished Top 10 (41 times)
In fact only 18% of all appearances have we finished in the bottom half of the board (10 times) it just so happens that those have been more recent.

If we totalled up all the points awarded to each country since 1957 - 2010, the United Kingdom has been awarded the 2nd most amount, after Sweden and above Ireland.

Just to put it in perspective for those who are young enough only to remember the bad performances, and therefore expect to be in the bottom.

Inseriousity.

I expect to be near the bottom cos I don't like the song basically.

Probably around the middle area somewhere, I dont think they'll come in the top five.

It's a good job you can't vote for it then! :p

it seems like their talent has dissipated along with their good looks...

I've gone for top 10 as it's clearly not anywhere near as good as the songs they made when they actually had a career in music, and obviously Europe still isn't our biggest fan. Should be better than most of our recent entries though as 1) it's by an actual band not some random paedo off the street (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHf1xhg1bHM) 2) the song doesn't completely suck 3) there aren't as many good songs from other countries as there usually are

I know but recently, we've just had really bad entries like that plane one. I do like this song but eurovision isn't about music, it's about which countries like other countries.

Jade would probably disagree with you there.
As would Lena from Germany, with no obvious neighbours.
And Alexander Rybak from Norway with his landslide victory.

*Used to be* It's not anymore. It's 50% public votes. 50% panel of music professional judges.

Germany (last years winner)'s entry - not as good as last year imo but she's still fit ;)

If we are lucky we usually have Ireland and Malta voting for us (being a former colony) - stretching it a bit and we'll sometimes pick up some Swiss/Swedish/Finn votes.. but at a big big strecth it seems. It'll be pretty much as it always is, with the former Soviet bloc voting for one another - we may do slightly better perhaps, what with the Royal Wedding.

I think the United Kingdom will do a little better this year and come 20th because of Blue being popular all over the world but i wouldt say could do any better.

Thats just my thought

The talent this year isn't all that great imo so we have a good chance =]

It's not done like that anymore 50% of the score is from a panel of music-industry specialist judges and 50% public vote - giving it a fair vote.

20th? Even Daz Sampson did better than that.

Bizarrely enough, in your ever so slightly stereotypical sweeping statement regarding the source of our votes at Eurovision, you mentioned that 'at a stretch' the UK receives points from three of the ten countries which didn't vote for the UK in 2009. Also, half of the UK's points last year (only five, but still) came from the former Soviet bloc (Azerbaijan and Georgia), as well as 1 point from Albania and 4 from Ireland. The UK came last last year because the song was shocking. It's as simple as that. If Eastern bloc voting was as rife as everyone says, Lena wouldn't have won, and Mother Russia probably would have done better than 11th.

To me, and many Eurovision fans, the results of the last two years have most definitely been based on quality rather than location in Europe.

EDIT: Also, the UK came last with the juries AND the televoting last. I think it's safe to say the entire population of Europe thought "That Sounds Good to Me" was horse poo.

Yes 20th because I believe that after the year when Daz Sampson was on it, all the other countries just voted for what country they liked and not the song.

When it was Daz Sampson and the years before that they voted for the song but now I think its been slowly going on by voting for their favourite country and not the song as i've already said
