Polls have been closed for nearly 4 hours and results are starting to trickle in and there is some very interesting results coming through.
It seems at the moment that in the local elections the lib dems have been "devastated" and most of their voters have turned to labour which has resulted in the conservatives losing four seats in sunderland. This has also being reciprocated across all current confirmed results.
The SNP appears to be heading for an overall majority in the scottish elections with senior labour figures such as Andy Kerr losing his seat.
The biggest surprise of the night is UKIP. One exmaple being Hartlepool st.hildas ward where there has been a recount because an independent got 360 votes but a UKIP candidate got 359. The results are expected imminently but it appears as if the conservatives are losing voters to UKIP and it may have cost them a few seats tonight.

I'm watching the Welsh Assembly, UKIP expected to pickup 3/60 AMs for the first time judging by Yougov prediction the other day. The extent of the Liberal Democrat collapse will also be interesting, especially in Liverpool and the north in general - it will be interesting to see what party rises in these areas to challenge Labour in the future if this is indeed the end of the Liberal Democrats.
Nigel Farage (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1343813145)
UKIP don't just take votes from the tories; Sunderland Hetton Labour 1940, UKIP 956, Tories 239, Lib Den 167
Nigel Farage (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1343813145)
Washington East (Sunderland), UKIP on 7%, ahead of the Lib Dems.
"Rumours of Labour gain in Woolton ward Liverpool - Lib Dems have ALWAYS held it and led 51% to Lab's 25% in 2010. Sensational if true. This is the start of Clegg's northern nightmare. Labour GAIN Woolton ward, Liverpool. Was 51% Lib Dem to 25% Labour in 2010. More to come."

UKIP will definitely make gains from the regional list and looks to be successful for them.
Just before 10pm, we got somebody from lib dems knocking on the door and saying that we haven't voted yet and that she would drive us personalty to go and vote.
a) I'm not going in a car with somebody who randomly knocks on our door
b) If I was to vote, I would have voted Labour
Lib dems are getting desperate me thinks

Scotland don't seem to like Labour too much now, perhaps they were some of the only people who preferred Gordon Brown as Labour Leader :P
Interesting results so far, Lib Dems have been absolutely demolished losing a lot of their councils (so far) and 300 seats in England after 110 of 279 councils declared.
The Conservatives haven't made a loss yet but their gain is small (2 councils 45 seats atm) in comparison to Labours 11 councils and 339 seats in England anyway.
Labour still have 23 seats in the Wales so that's 8 more for the overall majority with 9 still to declare, unsure whether that's actually gonna happen then.

I suspect they will reach 28-30, if they reach 30 they will run as a minority but I'm doubtful they'll win an overall majority.
BBC just showed projected figures that Alex Sammond's SNP will win 67 seats.
It also seems any Council seats that the Lib dems are defending they are losing out to Labour in the north and conservatives in the south east. Very interesting!

It is very interesting indeed, Cleggy certainly looked a bit shaken in his interview on the BBC. Bookies now have 2/1 odds on Clegg to step down before the end of 2011 with the same odds on Huhne to replace him - which would be very interesting considering Huhne's recent outburst at the Conservatives regarding the way the "No to AV" campaign was held.
Welsh constituencies all in apparently... awaiting on confirmation

Labour end on 30seats, one short of a majority (+4). Conservatives end on 14 (+2) and overtake Plaid Cymru as the second biggest party in the senedd. Plaid cymru end on 11 (-4) and the lib dems finish on 4 (-1).
SNP are one away from a overall majority on 63 with two more constituencies/regions declared.
SNP are most definitely going to get an majority.

SNP have a gain of 31 seats so far (totalling 51) with 58 still to be counted. I hope Scotland enjoys having no economy and being forced to adopt the Euro :P
Other results are pretty much as I expected tbh, it's basically what always happens when a government's unpopular - people vote for the "other" party despite probably not knowing anything about their policies. That said, there aren't many places in the English councils that Labour have taken directly from Conservatives, most of it seems to be from previously contested areas that didn't have a proper majority
edit: oh looks like the site I'm on is slow to update if SNP have 63 now haha

I was certain that UKIP would get at least one seat in the Welsh Assembly today! Disappointing for them, looks like the regional list didn't help them out as they thought.

The leader of the SNP has said that a referendum will go ahead. Isn't it quite a grey area constitutionally? Seeing as the parliament in West Minister is sovereign that they are the only ones who can truly declare Scotland Independent?

It is a very, very grey issue. David Cameron has declared that he will "fight with every fibre in his body" to keep the United Kingdom as that. Of course it would need to get through Westminster to declare Scotland independent so we'll see about that when we get to it.
Salmond has promised an independence in the second half of the term so we won't really know for a while, it will be very interesting though because it simply isn't economically viable for Scotland to become independent.

To be honest I'm surprised just how well the Tories and SNP did, and how Labour did not take advantage of the spending cuts to make huge council gains, although they have taken control of mine *sign*.

Good results for Tories so far, have actually GAINED 3 councils & 60 councillors - when most predicted losses.
UKIP I haven't been following but from brief things I've seen they've done well.
Really happy the SNP got a majority. I hope Scotland vote YES for independence - so they have no say in our laws. Then we just need to oust out NI & Wales and I'm a happy londoner. (Y)

EIP - English Independence Party :P I have no problem with Scotland, Wales & NI being united with England, but what I DO have a problem with is that England do not have their own Government. How I see it is that we all should have ONE Government - no stupid assemblies or independent governments - who makes laws for the WHOLE of the UK, everyone votes for that. OR we ALL have our OWN Governments - no one can vote in anyone else's (eg; currently Wales, Scotland & NI can vote for who runs England, yet England CANNOT vote for who runs Scotland, Wales & NI) and they all can make independent and different laws. None of this semi-independent different laws, voting for different countries nonsense. :P

I have to say this was a master piece of PR from Nigel Farage. You have to give the man credit. They came nowhere near getting on the regional list let alone winning a seat outright. It was classic though - they said Nigel Farage was on his way to Newport and a few minutes later he was in a studio in London!!
Chilling for the Lib dems though. BNP beat them in two seats. I am pretty happy with the outcome though
- Labour did very well and the Conservatives are now in second place with the nationalists in third which should stop any more money being spent on the welsh language which has grown out of all proportion to the amount of first language welsh speakers. The Scottish results are quite outstanding really and could be a blessing in disguise as they have promised all things to all people which I can't see them delivering so
they could be in for a very rocky ride when the honeymoon period is over. As far as an independence referendum is concerned he was quite reticent to say when so I feel he knows that there is really no real appetite for it. The rhetoric will have to stop now he is in power but you never do know, I guess.

Obviously I'm going to disagree on the whole welsh speaking spending :P However it shows the different attitudes towards to the two national parties in their countries. The fact plaid lost seats and SNP had massive gains is outstanding and I'm sure plaid will be asking questions to as why aren't they having as much success at their scottish counterparts.

Well I don't mind it being proportionate at all to the amount if people who speak welsh but as far as I am concerned it is well over the top especially when there is bigger prioriies like education, jobs, health etc

Farage did go to Newport despite what you are saying, infact it was live in the studio that David Dimbleby stated that Farage was leaving in a few moments to go to Newport where UKIP expected to pick up a few seats. UKIP did expect to pick up the seats, not the words of just UKIP put also the Yougov poll beforehand predicting UKIP to pick up 3 AMs from the regional list. It was the better-than-expected performance of the Liberal Democrats in terms of % which denied them these seats I think as polls beforehand put them both on a par.
So no, it wasn't spin or PR which is what you are getting at and I don't think a member of the party which is home to Alistair Campbell or Peter Mandelson can accuse anybody of spin. Nice try though.

I actually wasn't criticising - I thought it was a brilliant move. :P I know that it was announced he was leaving but did he actually go? Exactly what constituences did they try for because I didn't see a UKIP candidate all night and there is no mention of them in the Newport results. They would have had to come second or third to be even considered for the regional list?

Well it wasn't really a move, polls the night/couple of nights before indictated they were going to pick 3 AMs up and the 5% mark they were predicted they actually got in terms of votes, again I think it was due to the better-than-expected performance of the Liberal Democrats that stopped it along with the part I mention below about the consituencys. He's hardly going to say UKIP was on course to win seats and drive to Newport only to look defeated when he got there (as they were).
And they didn't try for consituencys I don't think, they say in the link that might have been why they didn't pick them up.

Okay so they must have just been named on the second ballot paper for votes then. They probably would have been better standing then because the BNP actually beat the lib dems
in two seats.
