View Full Version : Genius SW-5.1 Surround System +REP
Hi :)
I have a Genius SW-5.1, 1000, 5.1 channel surround system, cool eh?
Model number: GE60571
I bought them for my PC, which I haven't used in about a year now, as I bought a laptop, however to connect it to get sound, there are 3 jacks, orange, black, and green.
Green = Front
Black = Surround
Orange = Center/Woofer
Now obviously in a PC, you can quite easily plug all of these into the appropriate places, but on a laptop there is only 1 headphone jack, which is pretty useless as I can only plug one of them in.
So my question to you is:
Is there any additional wires and whatnot I can buy to enable me to plug it into my 1 headphone jack on my laptop and then plug the 3 wires into that so I can have the full surround/center and front playing, rather than a lousy one :(
Thanks!
Here is an image if your not sure.

Cheers mate! It's sort of what I was looking for, perhaps a little bigger than expected and more money haha! But Unfortonatley, my Laptop isn't that good and only has 2 USB slots, and they are both constantly used! I have a dongle ya'see, so that occupies one, and then I have my USB mouse, and thats both my USB slots filled, so I wouldn't be able to use that :(
Is there anything like a headphone splitter that would do the trick so that way I can just plug it into my headphone jack as opposed to having to use a USB slot?
Many thanks!

Hmmm, do you REALLY need the sub? Unless your watching movies non-stop of course.
Something like this would work - http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-Speaker-and-headphone-Splitter/dp/B0007OC96W/ref=pd_bxgy_ce_text_b
I'll try find a splitter with 3 thingos
This could work - http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Rockstar-Multi-Headphone-Splitter/dp/B00475K64E/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_0
I found a 3-way splitter but its like $50 D:

Yeah that should work, but do you want to spend that much?
I suppose you gotta spend a lot, seeing they're hard to come by.

That's only $13 :D
Would things like that work though, because I'm sure they didn't make it into 3 different wires for the fun of it lol.
No it wouldnt, it'd just be 1 2.0 stream multiplied 3 times, you'd be better off getting what i said and getting a usb hub for the other devices
Awwh, I'll probably just leave it then, I was only really wanting it if it was easy to do.. I'll just put up with using my headphones lol
Thanks anyway! :)

Also, I don't see why it wouldn't work D:
But yeah, have fun using your headphones! :)

USB HUB, then the USB soundcard?
I have a USB hub already, but my PC pretty much in a technical way tells me to not use it as it'll run faster lol

It shouldn't slow down just from the hub? just the USB ports will probably only run in 2.0, but the PC/Laptop will wont slow down with it?
I think it means that it will run faster if I plug it in directly rather than from a USB hub or something.. can't remember its exact words, but it came up in a little speech bubble

Depends on the device. What i mean is, have your USB sound card directly, then mouse and everything else in the HUB, will be fine
