I'm about two hours into it. The motion capture work is truly revolutionary, the dialogue biting and stories interesting. It's aesthetically stunning and plays out like a '40s TV detective thriller crossed with a hard boiled film noir.

Who's picking it up on Friday?

I will probably buy it after exams, otherwise I'll be too tempted to play it :L And I'm waiting for my current minecraft addiction to go down too.

I want it and have been looking at it for months, but right now I can't be spending my money on games, so unfair. Especially with Dirt 3 coming out soon too

It's a little on the repetetive side but it's terrific.

The map is huge too. I saw someone playing it on jtv last night, it looks really fun. I love how your gun is a last resort type of thing. Also I love the searching for clues. Like it's not just a few things on the floor that you have to search, they're mixed in with all kinds of rubbish that has nothing to do with the murder etc.. gives it that kind of freedom if you get what I mean

The map is huge but a lot of it is blocked off. Not sure if it'll be 'unlocked' as I progress. A LOT of people are having difficulty with the interrogations so I'm glad I'm not the only one. The game is very misleading.

Someone mentioned freedom but you don't actually have much. The controller vibrates when you're next to a clue, but you can turn that feature off. Other than that you're following cases that can only end one way. Sure, you can skip going to some places and end up not being an angel when it comes to solving the case, but everything ultimately follows the same road.

The dialogue and atmosphere are awesome, but it's getting very repetetive the more I play now. You get a case, drive, look at scene, drive, collect evidence, drive, interrogate, solve. And just when you get into on-foot and car chases, they come to an end.

I'm hearing around six or so hours in it kinda opens up and becomes sort of rhythmic in its pacing. That and I've heard complaints the dialogue system is a bit too vague, that you don't always have control over what you want to say, one of my fears about the game actually.

In the groove of now. The high points of the dialogue system hold a beacon as to just what video-games may evolve into, but when it falls down (you never know exactly what you're going to say or what evidence matches what) it falls down pretty fast and hard. Shame, really, will probably write some bits on it this weekend.

I'm picking up the game today/tommorow. I've seen some of the videos on youtube and it looks like a really good game, I like the idea of being the good guy in the game rather than the bad guy. :P

lol is it true that you can break benches and knock over lampposts with a car but can't break a garden fence with it?

I'm dying to play it, but I don't think I could pay £40 for it when I'll probably play through it once and never touch it again. I'll wait for a month when it plummets back down to the price we mortals can afford.

Wrote some thoughts on the thing (http://blogossus.wordpress.com/2011/05/21/la-noire-in-search-of-perfection/).

Mixed opinion on the whole game really.
