Hey,
Is there some sort of device I can buy so I can hook my external hard drive up to my tv and play dvds directly from the hard drive?

Cheapest option is to download imgburn, get some cheap dvds and burn the movies on that. Does your TV have a built in DVD player or do you have an external one?

Do you have a PS3 or Xbox 360? You could stream it from a HDD/your PC then.

You could use TVersity (http://tversity.com/) on your PC to stream it to your 360 in the correct format.

Look in the marketplace for an optional media update, allows you to play all file formats, what i've done:)

not everything, I don't believe xvid works (a season of scrubs on my external wont play and I think it must be in xvid)
