I've had a lot of bother with my wireless connection today as it keeps playing up, it's taking far too long to change from page to page and that's very unusual. I'm using a NETGEAR WG11v2 wireless adapter as my computer doesn't have one built in and I've been using the wireless router since the 6th of May without trouble. Netgear manager tells me that the signal strength is 8/10 and the signal is at 48mbps but it's far too slow, it's never been like this since I've started using it.

What can I do to return the normal speed of surfing? Thanks!

Have you installed any crapware?

Make sure the router isn't overheating, I found my routers sometime overheat and their performance plummets. Make sure they're well ventilated.

Update firmware? Restore to defaults?
I'm fully updated and I've restored to the default without any real difference.

Are you sure it's not your internet in general being slow?

I've been using Sky Wireless since the 6th of May and I've never experienced a downturn like that, what're the odds that I would've only experienced this ones in twenty four days?

There are the odd speed fluctuations.

On orange my speed has been halved til around 1st of august due to line switches in progress for 20mb customers, BT does have large problems too though.

I had a similar problem with my router and the issue was down to Orange/BT and something to do with the exchange :/ If it's suddenly just happened it could be something you've downloaded (if the problem is only happening on your computer) or something more widespread if the issue is effecting all the computers on the wireless system and the wireless CP is picking up issues too.

When I first noticed the change I immediately system restored to a later date to ensure it wasn't anything I had downloaded, I then ran and completed a virus scan but there were no complications found. It isn't affecting my xbl which makes me think that my computer is causing the trouble, the problem is however, what else can I try to check for a computing issue when I've virus scanned and system restored?

http://free.antivirus.com/rubotted/ - That will tell you if you have any rootkits installed.

Problem resolved, I'll write up a help topic explaining why the router wasn't connecting to a wireless adapter on a Windows Vista OS.
