Having problems with your Sky router and wireless adapter? Fix it with these handy tips!*
1) Unplug your router from the adsl cable. Take your router and your main power plug and plug it near the computer you are using, use the yellow ethernet cable provded by Sky to connect your computer to the router.
2) Open up a browser and type http://192.168.0.1/ into the address bar. By default the username will be 'admin' and the password will be 'sky'.
3) Go to wireless settings and locate the section headed "Security Options" and select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy).
4) You will see two headers open: "WEP Security Encryption" and "WEP Key". Ensure that you are using 'Shared' and a '128 bit' encryption. Under the "WEP key" section enter any passphrase you wish and click generate, You will now see that in the section labeled "Key 1" you'll have a jumble of random letters and numbers. Copy this into a wordpad/notpad programme and save it as "WEP Key".
5) Remove the ethernet cable from the router and place your ADSL cable into the back of the router.
6) Enter your wireless assistant and open up the "Security" tab. Once inside the "Security" tab ensure that 'Enter Key Manually' section is selected, ensure 'Key 1' is also selected and enter the long passphrase you saved earlier into the section. Please note that '128 bit' should also be selected.
7) Click Apply. You should now be connected to the internet!
*: These tips were passed over from a Sky assistant when I phoned to resolve the same issue. The problem usually occurs because of Windows Vista not recognizing anything but 'WEP'. The wireless adapter and assistant used in this case was a NETGEAR WG111v2 therefore other wireless adapters may vary.
