Why are you asking us about your price range? lol

I would go with a canon 5d mark 2

the mod that edited the original post forgot his capital 'I' just saying.

+it'd help if we knew your price range. The first camera I actually used for photography was a Canon 1000D, which is a great camera for beginners IMO & I still use it. Gonna persuade my mum to get me a 7d for christmas though :P

Yeah. I agree with Recursion. I have a camera just like that and it's been really helpful to me as I use it quite often. For beginners, it's best to get a normal camera as it is cheaper, more appropriate for just normal shoots and not battery consuming. Go for cameras with disposable batteries. This is because the energy in non-disposable batteries will be reduced to a lower range every time you charge it. If you are looking for a professional camera, DSLR would be perfect. I wouldnt suggest Sony or LG cameras because it's very hard to find their spare parts.

If you want a DSLR go with the Sony Alpha range, fantastic and easy to use for beginners.

If you want a good point and shoot instead, go with the Panasonic Lumix TZ range, fantastic little cameras.

If you want a DSLR, get a Canon EOS 500D but don't get a DSLR if you're just going to take photos of you and your friends.
If you're not after spending that much for a camera get this one Clicky clicky (http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/20020116/Fujifilm-FinePix-AV150-14MP-3x-Optical-Zoom-2-7-inch-LCD-Digital-Camera-Black/Product.html)
