Firstly, I would just like to start off with saying that Ive suggested this too a few other forums, mainly GFX forums and it has worked every single time.
The 'Post Count Competition' may just sound like a waste of time when first reading it, and I agree, it kind of does.. but only until you really start looking at different angles of it does it come off like a good idea IMO. Yes, I know theres still going to be people that disagree with me so trust me, I see all of your points..
The 'Post Count Competition' is a competition that attracts members too log onto the forums and post heaps within 24 hours. No spamming will be accepted and will not count. The aim for members in this competition is too pretty much try and get 100, 150, or even 200 posts within 24 hours. Its up to the admins, mods, and event organisers too decide. The first three people who reach the target receive a prize. However, I stress, for these 24 hours, strict moderating must be taken place as members do decide to get a little excited and begin spamming, and obviously moderators will be deleting these posts which results in the posts not being counted to their total post count.
Prizes for the top three members should be decided between admins, moderators, and event organisers but one thing that should be a prize for all members whom reach the target should be an award. Top three prizes should obviously get more things but that is not up to me too decide.
Let me know what you guys think, also, it doesnt have to be 24 hours. It can be less, it can be more. This competition can be played around with a little, so post your ideas guys.
Once again, I know this can end in a spam fest but if strict moderators are on duty for the time that this competition runs, we will have no problems whatsoever.

So a posting competition? it has been done before and caused nothing but arguments and spam.

We had a posting competition back in April. It was quite a success in terms of getting people to post, but it also caused a few people to spam the forum with pointless posts. :L

You may of had no idea but it's nice to see your interested.
Trouble with these sorts of competitions are that people will post a lot during the competition but the majority won't continue when they aren't offered an incentive to do so.

I agree with Kyle, the first three last time don't post as much now (which is understandable) but also, they don't post a noticeable amount, apart from Micheal who does it without the incentive.
I like these competitions but I just get bored of them after a while!

Nice of you to suggest this, despite the fact its been done before! (but you didn't know that obviously).
+rep for trying to help :)

Nice for trying to suggest it :)
However, never ever again lol
Think I am the only one who was in the top four to actually not change how much I post. The top three (who won prizes) spammed like mad and hardly post now. I wouldn't mind if they didn't post the worlds most ridiculous things (within the forum rules)

I must admit, the recent posting competition was an absolute nightmare in terms of moderating.
I think it brought a few people into the world of posting on a forum, but obviously they weren't gonna post to the extent they did without an incentive after.
The best way to get people posting is good discussion, aslong as we have a few people posting a few interesting threads everday in most of the forums, there will be more than enough posting going on in my eyes.
I know it sounds cliche but i'd rather see 10 quality posts that make me want to quote them and write back, than 100 posts that just say "Yes" or "No" in more words.
I think this introduction of 'Who Quoted Me' will boost posting as if you see people quoting you, you often go back to that thread and write back. I know i've been getting alot of these Who Quoted Me PMs and i've found myself posting more.

Nice idea, it's just a shame it always results in a ton of spam around the forum :(

Being a Super Moderator at the time I'm going to disagree and say it wasn't bad to moderate at all. The people who spammed and took it too far were disqualified and that was only 2 people so it clearly wasn't that bad.
I do think it is wayyyy too soon to do another one though but it's a nice idea and good to see you offering feedback! :)

May have been a bit harsh saying Nightmare, but you must admit, there was alot more spamming about. I noticed that alot of posts were moved out of the forum, so it was alot more effort.

But the two who won/came second did post some complete crap, and were obviously posting for their count.
