Hello!
Right, I've now got a full time job so now I'm thinking about getting myself a car and then insuring it. Slight problem, the quotes I get result in being over £3500.00. I'm not prepared to pay this lump of money to insure my car especially when the cars were Toyota Yaris', Fiesta's and old Corsa's.
My budget for a car is about £1500 as it is my first car after all.
Can anyone post any reasonable cars and even insurance companies so that the insurance won't be sky high?
Best car IMO would be a Renault Clio or a Peugeot 106
Also try getting a quote from LV.. They are good with young drivers

As I say to everyone who's starting to drive - don't bother with compare sites. They're useful once you're old and insurance is more dependant on the company, but when you're young and inexperienced the best insurers tend to be ones that don't feature on compare sites. Direct Line and Churchill are two that I've always found very reasonable (been with Churchill ever since I started and still haven't found anyone able to quote me cheaper) and if you're gonna go on your parent's insurance as a named driver it's worth looking into companies like Admiral who allow you to build up no claims bonuses even without being the main driver, as that's a real penny saver for the following years.
Doing the research yourself obviously takes a lot more time and effort but it's so incredibly worth it

I'm trying to get a quote on a Clio on both Direct Line and Churchill and this message shows...
"From the information that you have provided to us, we are unable to provide you with a quotation at this time."

it means for some reason or another they don't really want to insure you.
ring them, they might be able to help.
look for cars that other teens don't have, simply because they're likely to be cheaper because statistically they're not in many crashes.
i wouldn't recommend insuring the car as your parents and putting you as a named driver because it's illegal and if the insurance company decide to investigate the crash or w.e and they find out you're 'fronting', they won't pay out and could even blacklist you simply 'cause it's like driving with out insurance.
try cars other teens don't have, obviously smaller engine'll help.
you'll be paying a lot for insurance on your first year anyway so expect it
good luck!

As I said.. try www.lv.co.uk
When I first started driving, when I was 17.. Got insured on my Renault Clio 1.2 Grande for £1,997 p/a or I think it was just over £2k for monthly installments.
for the record, if you are involved in a crash and found to be 'fronting' - you can actually be prosecuted for having no insurance - meaning you can recieve up to 6 points, a hefty fine AND have to pay out for your car and the third party car to be repaired. All this on top of other potential prosecutions (ie, careless driving, etc.)

What kind of details have you put in to get these monstrous prices haha are you a convicted car thief who's registered blind or something. I know it's gone up a lot recently but I paid around £1400 my first year so something's really not right there

Car insurances has on average doubled in the past year for younger drivers so that 2k you were quoted would be closer to 4k.
I got a quote of 3.5k on a 2005 Fifa Punto from LV

Is that the version that the president of Qatar bought?

That probably explains why my quotes are £7k+. Looks like I won't be driving any time soon!
more and more people are buying clios, try another car or you could look into the dreaded black box route, which co-op do and claim it could save you thousands

:L I was playing Fifa at the same time as writing that
I have no idea about insurance and stuff, but I was told that Fiestas are great cars for a young driver. However I think they're a little more expensive. I dont even know why im posting LOL.

Get a VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. They are pretty cheap, if you look right, they can be under £1000.
LV Are suggested for young drivers.

Insurance is ridiculous, for me anyway. I remember trying to get a quote for those boxes fitted in your car which track mileage, how you drive etc and that ended up at about £4,000...

but truth of the matter is, insurance companies are making a loss because of so many uninsured drivers etc etc. for the past 3 years now they've all had little (if any) profit

Well I'm not sure how they will make a profit now then with insurance "doubling" as someone pointed out in this thread. Who would pay this per annum? Ridiculous.

I pay 3k on a 60 plated 500 which is actually quite a good deal considering.... Try admiral multicar, if you insure all household cars on the same policy with no-claims protection it can save you quite a bit

I'm 17 and its a limited edition model which drove the price up
that is pretty expensive, I was paying less than that on my Golf when I was that age. I'm 20 now and pay £1200 on the Bora.
