Hey,
Is it worth buying an xbox elite from 2007 that has 120gb hard drive and the red ring of DOOM? The guy is charging 30euro which doesn't seem allot but im curious how much the red ring would cost to fix?

They had mine 2 weeks! I'd say that's worth it.

Hahaha worth the wait. PS3 took the same amount of time. Guess I'm just lucky.

When my 360 Premium got the RROD I setup a warranty claim with MS they sent me a shipping label, I boxed it up, slapped it on, they collected it and had a new/refurbished 360 with me in just under a week. Cost me nothing and got a newer 360 out of it.

It wont be in warranty though, Which RROD Segments does it have?

My original xbox from release is still going after having RROD twice.

Strip it down to the core, clean it all out etc and do the towel trick.

It doesn't say

The actual effort, plus the towel trick only lasts a few hours.

The towel trick is an extremely bad idea, but giving it a good clean solves the majority of problems.

nope - the towel trick lasts 1/2 days, but when i completely cleaned out my xbox, all the dirt, dust etc blocking the airwaves and the cpu, heatsink etc was removed, i did the towel trick and it's worked for a year now

The towel trick 'resolders' the solder, i think.
it's to do with the USA/Japanese market - they can't use solder with led, i think.

or some bollocks like that.

The towel trick works by heating your xbox to a point where the connections melt and resolder thus restoring broken solders (although it can also break perfectly fine connections)... at the same time as frying your CPU and Graphics card 9 times out of 10 it does more damage then good.

MS extended the warranty on all Xbox consoles because of the RROD, it might be worth checking?

Only by a year I think? If its a 2007 model it would of ran out in 2009/10.

I feel so lucky at times like these. my xbox is nearly 8 years old now I think. Never had a single problem.

Pop a ram chip off and say you have E71 error. Free fix ftw.

If you open up your xbox you lose all warranty.

You lose all warranty if you don't have warranty anyway..

Just use the hairdryer trick
