They seem desperate for new applications to me, though I can't blame them all the big ones are.

I'd love to see Windows Phone 7 take off, Android and iOS could do with some good competition seeing as BlackBerry appears to be out of the game now.

I'm not sure if I see this working particularly well, if people are developing for existing platforms, there wont be any platform-specific software for WP7 to entice people to the product, much like Apple does when they feature Apps from the App Store in their TV ads.

When they say porting I wonder if it's going to be native code or run on some sort of layer.

As far as I can tell, properly ported if they're mapping platform APIs.

Seems decent then. I'm curious to see what they're going to do once Windows 8 rolls out, if they're sporting ARM compatibility with a mobile UI surly they don't need two mobile OSes.

Will probably find WP7 dies as quickly as the Zune OS did (based on WinCE, which they might also dump?), not that it's a bad OS, but as you say, I can't see them keeping two code bases when they could easily use W8 on mobile devices.

What happened to good old HPCs and Windows CE. I loved my Jordana 720. If they carried on support for Windows CE in the first place surly they could have done the whole transition to ARM sooner.

Microsoft must have some sort of plan with WP7 and synergy with Windows 8 but it's just weird. Just like it was extremely weird for them to push out a completely done over Windows Mobile 6.5, endorse it and a market so much and then pull the plug so quickly there too.

Ok, when I said Windows CE, I didn't mean straight Windows CE, I meant the Windows CE they use to back the Zune UI etc, not that POS UI on a tiny touch screen from the 2000 era. LMAO

But yeah, I see what you mean, they were obviously planning their moves carefully, I think they pushed out once last update to WM6.5 in an attempt to gain some interest in the platform and monetize it as much as possible.

No I loved it. I got a NEC 900 and everything, I really did love my HPCs. I liked WM. I don't know why the ditched it completely.

Oh god no not that sort of PPC. I loved as far as Windows CE (HPC/PPC) goes:

This stuff. I even got a PCMCIA 16bit wifi card working with my HPCs. I bought a Jordana 720 from eBay when I was just a little kid behind my parent's backs, loved the thing.
