View Full Version : Women are actually the sexist sex?

On my local radio there was a discussion about women actually being the sexist sex. They expect men to open doors for them, pull a chair for them and just general things. Five female psychologists got together and discussed whether it was sexist or not and the result was it actually is.
Personally I do feel like it's good manors but I know a fair few women who expect men to hold a door opened for them like they're more delicate than us. Don't get me wrong I would hold open a door for a woman but I'd rather not if a woman was implying / hinting for me to do so.
Another prime example is women expect men to lift heavy items which again is politeness and fair enough men are a bigger build but once it's at the mans discretion if a woman tells a man he needs to do it because he's a man, that's sexist.
I honestly think the whole sexist thing has been blown out of proportion on both sides. The second one thinks of sexism they automatically think of a woman which is unfair as men do get treated in a sexist manor from time to time.

I don't really understand the meaning of sexist sex. Imo, some of the women want guys to open doors or lift heavy items for them. Generally, not all of them are like this. So, maybe they are not sexist sex?

a) manner*
b) Absolutely true, it's treated as if it only occurs on one side. Annoying thing is sexism is only an issue if there's something positive that men get that women don't.
True sexism is women getting less pay then men while doing exactly the same job. Stuff like this isn't sexist and comes down to tradition and manners, many of which are outdated and no one really gives a **** anymore.

Men having the vote.. was tradition
Women not having jobs.. was tradition
All aspects of sexism are tradition, doesn't mean they're right.

Anyone remember awhile back it was national womans day? Something like that anyway if there was to be a national mans day **** me the uproar it would cause would be incredible.

Agree although, I like a man to open doors for me etc. It is a case and give and take. It depends on the person. I don't sowing on a button etc for a man demeaning etc.

yeah richie every single women in the world are the exact same, we're all really sexist. imo it's socialisation that's to blame for sexism, not the actual sexes. i personally don't expect guys to hold open the doors or stand there waiting, i expect that from any nice, decent person. no-one likes to be told what to do like "hold the door open for me". you can't even compare that to what women have went through in the past, it's like a man expecting a woman to have their dinner on the table for them for when they get home from work which fyi was very common in the past (cause ykno.... they were socialised to believe that). i'm not even a feminist but this is getting ridiculous now.
...what's the point even arguing? some woman are happy to take on the caring/cooking role while some men are happy to be the breadwinners or security, we don't all suffer inequalities. women can divorce/have careers etc maybe not to the extent that they should be allowed but yeah both sexes have a choice now what we want to do, you don't have to be strong if you don't want to and you're not being forced to so what's the issue..?
you say your sexism is a joke but i'm starting to believe it's not lol you go about with your kitchen jokes, get away with it yet try say we're the most sexist? if i was to say you should have muscles etcetc all the time then you would be offended. maybe in theory we are the ~most sexist~ but in plenty of places, men are still the ones to get the special treatment etc like South Korea () a husband has a duty to their elder male family, then to their sons THEN wives/daughters. government make males their priority too for education and health etc so even if women are most sexist they still get treated worse in some places.
plus, an upper class white woman would have more equalities than a working class black man so sexism isn't the only issue. we all have our advantages and we all have our disadvantages. & you say when people say sexism we think 'females'?? lol yeah that's cause after years of being a male dominated society, females finally get a say so of course that's how they think of sexism. idk just cause people expect you to do something it's not sexism, at least you're not getting forced to

I'm only calling women sexist because women say men are sexist, they don't say "some men are sexist" and relax Jen I only made the thread because it was a discussion on my local radio so I was curious what peoples views were lol

It is a case and give and take.

Definitely.
Woman always want equality but they don't want the bad sides of it. They expect to be forgiven for being a woman, ie when it comes to opening doors, standing up at a dinner table, allowed to do things first, allowed to assault men and not expect retaliation etc etc etc.
If woman want equality they need to examine all sides of equality.
Game of Thrones. Now thats sexism for you..
I wouldn't agree. I think both sexes are to be honest.

its like racism, no one cares when a black man is racist to a white man but vice versa it's frowned upon.

There are sexist men and sexist woman.
It's just not as publicly acceptable for men to promote any form of sexism toward woman as it is the other way around. So woman are sexist at times too, it just goes under the radar.
That's not to say sexism isn't right though :P
I agree women are the sexiest sex ;l
read the title as this about 4 times before I realised

Sexism is rational people, we treat one another in a differing way because both genders are different in general personality and in the body sense. We men open doors for women as a mark of respect and manners, while women wear more revealing/feminine clothes because its simply what we prefer/do not prefer. Now sure, this is in part generalising but we are a lot more different than we often like to think. The difference between sexism and racism for example, is that a black man and a white man are exactly the same as one another - whereas a man and woman simply are not, therefore it is ridiculous to compare the two.
A question for Richie also, was Jon Gaunt on this discussion you heard?
i think what you've got there is that you're looking at it from a different perspective which is totally valid but not the norm at all.
could blame guys for making girls automatically sexist by being told to hold doors for girls by their parents (tis how i learnt like) or giving your seat up for a girl, they may wanna sit but ur bein nice, its like jen said about socialisation, it's how it's expected nowadays.

I haven't a clue all I heard was it was five physiologists that got together to discuss it

I think there is always going to be that small handful that are and others that aren't and that is the same for boys there is always going to be those that are. I think everyone can be sexist in their own ways.
