Very good idea, you could have message all online/offline too. It's so annoying when your sending out a message to everyone and you start selecting all the names and then somone messages you or goes offlin >=l.

You can still message everyone. When the list reloads, just wait for it to appear again and just keep clicking the people you want to message. The ones that were already clicked, you can't click, so you'll know which people have been clicked on. (Note: People clicked on before the list reloaded won't have the white box around their name)

you do not have to start over, simply scroll down a tad, and carry on from the last name you had. The names that were originally selected will not show, but it will be in the same place you were clicking previously, and you can tell, because if you click their name, nothing happens unless you click it the 2nd time. hope that's helped.
