[Question] Web Development

Okay, I currently only know HTML and CSS. I would love to be able to be a web developer, but I don't know where to start off, what other languages would be useful to know etc...

Any ideas on what other languages I should start off with, and any ideas for some projects or other ways to start me off to help me expand my knowledge on these languages.

PHP & MySQL, then move on to Java and C#

It depends on where you want to start off.

Personally, try learning PHP since it's all server side and would be beneficial for later use.
Then learn to use javascript and ajax and eventually MySQL.

Only use MySQL is you're planning on looking at database storage.

I would start off learning PHP at w3schools, just follow the tutorial on that website and it explains how to do basic PHP and SQL works, when you're comfortable with that perhaps in a week or a few more, it will be a lot easier for you to get into Javascript and learn how CSS works.

I recommend these tutorials for learning PHP basics: http://devzone.zend.com/article/627
They're pretty old now, but they're still really helpful.
And remember to post in this forum if you get stuck with anything, people will help you :)

As far as 'extras' go, get XAMPP (http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html) and phpDesigner (http://www.mpsoftware.dk/phpdesigner.php) (There are free alternatives to phpDesigner but I love it).

Stick with one language before you start blowing off the atmosphere learning others. Become proficient at PHP before you ever start Javascript. You'll only confuse yourself in syntax and doing things, rather than helping.

I say you start PHP, make a few nice static (non-ajax, non flashy, non anything) applications that you can use. Maybe a PHP and MySQL address book.

Then improve from there.

For Web Development only learn PHP if you're interested in actually coding scripts, if not learn JavaScript, it's an extremely useful language.

Didn't read all posts (tl;dr) but honestly follow tutorials by http://youtube.com/phpacademy I learnt everything off him because he explains what the code is doing and why.

W3schools.com/php and php.net is good to refer to if you want to see what parameters you need.

Going through your post history reveals your general ability and coding style, so if he's done that, then yes, he does know that you haven't learned much.
I don't intend to come across as insulting, I like that you're trying to learn and you've contributed a couple of helpful tutorials to the forum, I just thought I'd point out that Caleb was right. Keep learning though :)

Both posts above show a clear point but the problem with my post history is you only see the problems I have or maybe that first ever script I made which I honestly laugh at how bad I coded it. I don't tend to post my scripts so you would really see anything I make, but yeah I'm learning, I'm getting to be alright but I still have a lot to learn :)
