I'm creating a small scale website and I'm wondering if it's worth my time developing to cater for the needs of those who use IE6?

Depends on what your websites intended purpose is.
I would just to be on the safe side, surely they should upgrade but personal choice I suppose.

Plus developing for older browsers kills some time :)

Yes, it's still a major browser (unfortunately)

It's still the majority browswer I believe, however it depends on who your key demographic is.

Do it, what's the harm in spending a couple of hours on just catering for more people to view your site, surely it's worth it to make sure more people know you're a professional and serious website?

Only 10.7% now, most English speaking countries are now below 3%. They're also all business people anyway.

Google ended support a while back, you should do. Redirect them to get google chrome or to porn instead. Trust me, you didn't want that web traffic anyway.

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_explorer.asp shows that only 2.4% of internet users use IE6, so I'd say no.

I would recommend only going out of your way to make sure everything works in IE8 (and even that's annoying).

Yes, let's ignore the official Microsoft statistics and instead let's look at what a web development site visited almost entirely by web savvy people what *most* people use as their web browser.

No, IE 6 is extremely outdated. Give them a message telling them to upgrade their browser.
