I thought this.

If piss is unfiltered then ***** can be. Piss, to me, is a 'second level' swear word which are becoming more and more socially acceptable.

I remember creating a thread about this before and they said it can be used to offend other people but nowadays, the word ***** means nothing.

An example is Eastenders and Coronation Street, they are both aired before 9pm on the main channels and yet I've seen "you're a *****!" used a few times.

It obviously isn't a terrible word that causes natural disaster to occur, but unlike piss it's almost exclusively limited to derogatory use which wouldn't be allowed anyway. Can't see why it needs to be used tbh

Like the above said. The word in question can almost soley be used to offend someone. Just about the only case when it's not being used to offend is when you are talking about dogs, and tbh that may happen a few times in animal forums but a simple use of the phrase 'female dog' will suffice instead of unfiltering a word which would just mainly be used for offence. It just isn't needed.

Other words which are unfiltered, but you may think should be, is because they can be used in other ways not to cause offence. But if such words were used in an offensive way and targetted at another user, it would break the following rule

A1. Respect other forum members ~ Always respect other forum members, this means do not be rude towards them and respect their opinions. You should not bully or victimise other members for any reason and you should not behave in a negative manner excessively or attempt to cause arguments.

Just to put it into perspective. Your word could only really be used in the following circumstances (or similar)

Get lost you *****

Whereas the word 'Piss' can be used in other, non-offensive ways

I got proper pissed last night

But can also be used to cause offence, in which it would be dealt with by a moderator, but a filter is not required.

Thats my scope on things anyways, hope it answers your question.

I'd love to know why you'd ever want to say that on the forum. I do get where your coming from with this, as the word is used alot in a 'jokey way' in real life. But tbh, on a forum i could only see it being used to cause offence.

It lowers the tone and it just doesn't look great. Call me old fashioned, but when i'm searching for things on google and i come across topics on forums i've never seen before, if i see loads of swearing dotted around it because they don't have a filter, it really puts me off.

Err. HxL spam in regards to Chris Brown.

In regards to lowering the tone etc and it being used to cause offence, surely more time than not it's used in a jokey way; and when it's not then do the same when piss is used in the wrong way. Let the moderators deal with it.

Tbh, as someone put up there, it's been used in pre-watershed shows, and I'd be shocked if piss was ever used on Eastenders.

Some dont even class ***** as a swear word. Piss is worse.

I just think, unfiltering certain words means it becomes an excuse to start using them for a while. If i were a new member and i was just casually browsing the forum and i kept coming across threads with the above word in it being used all the time, i'd be put off.

I doubt the word could be used in constructive posts that actually add something to a thread.

Final decision is with Sct really as he controls the forum filter etc, but tbh i think it's fine as is. Thats my view on things anyway! I shall leave it now, i'm tired.

Then surely all swear words should then be filtered. I can't see how piss could contribute towards a post anymore than ***** would.

I'm going bed too. Goodnight!

No offence but habbox really needs to ****en lighten up, people cus, and those twelve years olds that you are trying to "protect" from being offended, are the ones using the words the most, it kinda does its self redondent. and if Habbo doesnt care about it neither should you, I mean if it gets to out of hand, do something, but if its just a one time use of a word to prove a point, why filter it, this makes no sense to me.

This really. The only time it's really acceptable is if you're directly quoting Crufts who are fascinated by a female dog who is best in show, but you might get the robot brigade attacking you for that so best not :P It won't cause World War III, but it's not limiting you to the words you can use and besides, people will get what you're trying to say. Give it a couple of years though and the word will lose its rudeness like most words in the english language.

This issue is debated at least once a month and I feel all the answers that management have to give relating to the filter can be found by searching 'filter' in the search function at the top of the Feedback forum. This would save a lot of time and energy and going over and over the same ground again! :P

I don't make the decisions I was just pointing out that the subject has been done to death. They may reply. :)

I don't care if it has been brought up before, i think they whole swearing rules, and filtered words need to be re thought out, to make it more fitting to the way kids talk these days!

As has been brought up in the past; when you talk it will probably be forgotten about after a while. When you post on a forum, it will remain there permanently for all to see.

So you think the answer is going to be any different after 3 weeks? Tell me one positive thing about the need to swear.

It offers one a larger vocabulary :P

Now I'm all for the filter/swearing rules to be laxed a little but bitch is a word that will only cause offence unless it's used in the pets section.
You say you always call people *******? (Not sure if you were joking) I'm sure they love that, where as your friends may be fine with it anyone that doesn't know you who happens to stumble a cross a thread with you calling everyone "*******" is just going to steer clear or call you a bitch back then you will get offended because some random person just called you a ***** .

Think of it like this, how many threads in the last year have been created about dogs? The word is filtered because people would be like "stupid *****", it'd be used as an insult not in reference to a female dog. My view has changed on the filter, it pisses me off how we are limited on posting rap due to swearing but they said no so just accept it, it's a habbo fansite after all.

Can't a member of management just say the words filtered are going to remain filtered, these threads get created at least once a month and they are pointless as ****, if the answer is no just bloody tell them its a no lol.

Here I was tempted to use the beloved "double facepalm" image.

Admittedly I get sick with these threads every couple of months but you don't get when you don't ask. However, I think some common sense needs to be used here that any swear word can be used in a jokey way providing the person you're saying it to thinks it's a joke. Personally I do not want to see "you little *****, that was my idea!" or something like that scattered around the forums because it isn't appropriate. Similarly I wouldn't want any swear word, especially when it's directed at someone (notice how I've put especially in italics incase someone decides that a filter needs to be rethought out if it isn't towards someone ) on the forums constantly.

Tbh with you, I always feel that if someone has a constant need to swear, their vocabulary seriously lacks maturity.

The word isn't going to be unfiltered, no one will use it for talking about dogs and anyone who wants to use it will most likely use it aimed at someone and so on. These threads do happen all the time and we aren't changing the way the filter works, we aren't having an opt-in system (in before that gets asked again) and we will only unfilter words if they have been filtered by mistake or there is no actual reason for the word to be filtered in the first in place.

I don't think there is anything else to discuss about this as it's a no and that no isn't changing so, thread closed.
